My Prayer

Lord please help me to find my way
My feet to often go astray
I need your guidance every day
While walking in this world

I find myself on the wrong path
I must abscond or face your wrath
Then I return to you at last
Looking to your word

Have your precious mercy flow to me
Make me all that you want me to be
Keep my eyes from sin that lurks within
So that I might walk with you again

I wander off so easily it seems
The enemy has evil schemes
But by your blood I’ve been redeemed
I once again can stand

Your strength not mine Oh Lord
Your will not mine Oh Lord
Your way not mine Oh Lord
This is my prayer
This is my prayer

Have your precious mercy flow to me
Make me all that you want me to be
Keep my eyes from sin that lurks within
So that I might walk with you again

Grace & Mercy

He Has Been Merciful to Me

Through all of my struggles
And all of my pains
Through all of my heartaches
And all of my days
Through life’s hardest battles
I know this one thing
He has been merciful to me

He has been merciful
So merciful
All of my life, all of my days
He showed me His love
When my life goes through the battles
He’s always at my side
He has been merciful
So merciful to me

Through troubles in marriage
That caused me to cry
Through loss of a job
Twenty years left behind
Through every trouble
I know this one thing
He has been merciful to me

He has been merciful
So merciful
All of my life, all of my days
He showed me His life
When my life goes through the battles
He’s always at my side
He has been merciful
So merciful to me

I’ve battled through cancer
I’ve battled through pride
I’ve battled through sin
Long settled inside
Losing a finger
Or a shoulder that hung
He has been merciful to me

He has been merciful
So merciful
All of my life, all of my days
He showed me His life
When my life goes through the battles
He’s always at my side
He has been merciful
So merciful to me

The Right Path

I loved to play a part or two with the Iowa River Players
They put on stage plays several times a year
For many years my wife and I filled roles that made us smile
And sometimes they would also bring a tear

These roles were usually fun to play and kept us very busy
It stole a lot of time away from home
It also took away from spending time alone with God
And that is when my mind began to roam

I went a long way off the path where I should not have gone
I found myself destroying my own life
Then I remembered the dramatic way that Jesus came
And took all of my deathly sins away

He was beaten close to death by a Roman soldiers scourge
His flesh was ripped with wounds on back and chest
A cruel crown of thorns was placed upon His head
He was beaten, spited on and mocked in jest

All His followers denied Him as they called out crucify
He carried His own cross to Calvary
Nails pierced through hands and feet as they hung Him to a tree
Then He breathed His last and died for you and me

He died to free us from our sin and heal us from our pain
He died to reconcile us to God
The He rose again to give us all eternity with Him
He proved to all that He had overcome

Now we all have a choice to accept the price He paid
And become the sons of God he called us to
This is what has brought me back to the path I am now on
And the path that I am praying is for you

The Believers Life

He Lifts Me

He lifts me
Out of fear into love
Out of doubt into faith
Out of sorrow into joy
Out of turmoil into peace
Out of despair into hope
Out of darkness into light
Out of defeat into victory
Out of pride into humility
Out of anxiety into patience
Out of selfishness into compassion
Out of ignorance into wisdom
Out of weakness into strength
Out of sin into righteousness
Out of bondage into freedom
Out of sickness into healing
Out of depression into optimism
Out of chaos into your plan
Out of being overcome into an overcomer
Out of the miry clay into His loving arms
Out of my will into your way
Out of my flesh into His Spirit
Out of this world into His Kingdom
Out of the lake of fire into eternal life

Satisfaction

Casey’s is big here and so’s Kum and Go
These stores seem to pop up wherever we go
We stop and get gas and goodies to eat
Even though the prices are not hard to beat

It costs a bit more but we don’t much mind
Because it satisfies our needs every time
We come and we go with relative ease
Not like a Walmart which is never a breeze

It’s also convenient to let our life slide
Not caring that your sin is wasting inside
Don’t be accountable to anyone
Just do your own thing and life will be fun

But this will cost you much more than these stores
This convenience will cost you eternities woes
For heaven’s reserved for those who repent
And acknowledge the Son whom God has sent

Don’t take the wide road where this life will lead
Enter the narrow gate down on your knees
Ask the Lord Jesus to reign in your life
Then your true soul will be satisfied

My Conclusion

When I think of the fact that water and ice
Are made from two gases that meet and splice
I can’t help but wonder how they first met
And decided their union would be complex

When I think of how stars form a pattern in space
As the wander around from place to place
I can’t help but wonder how it came to be
That they would give guidance to sailors at sea

So many questions have flooded my mind
Of incredible things that have happened through time
I have made the conclusion that satisfies me
There’s a God up in heaven who makes this all be

Our God in heaven sent us His own Son
He died on a cross to redeem everyone
The curse of sin broken by His sacrifice
Death is defeated by eternal life.

Do you live with this incredible gift
Have you accepted what only God gives
Ask Him today to forgive your sins
Then He will pardon and live within

Only Our God

Who tells the sun when to rise each day
Who tells the moon when to shine or fade
Who moves the stars from place to place
Only our God. Only our God

Who starts the wind and commands it to blow
Who steers the clouds where they should go
Who rises temperature or sets it low
Only our God. Only our God

Who gives the birds a song to sing
Who rises flowers from seeds each spring
Who allows bees to buzz and sting
Only our God. Only our God

Who brings the leaves upon the trees
Who changes their color before the freeze
Who has them fall in autumns breeze
Only our God. Only our God

Who sent His only Son to die
Who rose Him up to bring new life
Who loves us more than we realize
Only our God. Only our God

Who wants us for His own today
Who hears us when we bow and pray
Who blesses us in every way
Only our God. Only our God

The Believers Life

So Many Things

Eggs in the fry pan
Bacon being nuked
Coffee brewing slowly
Pouring out the juice
Toast in the toaster
Eggs need turning now
Multitask for breakfast
Sometimes I wonder how

But all the while I’m running
My spirit is alive
I’m praising my dear Savior
He’s always at my side
And as He brings some people
To rest inside my mind
My prayers go up unceasing
That they will all be fine

There are so many things
To do when morning calls
The best way is to contemplate
How to best do them all
When finally it’s over
And all the food is gone
I sit and write this poem

Let My Words

Let my words be graceful every day
That whoever hears is blessed
Let me speak only what edifies
That the hearer will lift up his eyes

Let my words bring peace to troubled souls
Comfort in their darkest times
Let me speak only what soothes their pain
So that they might lift your name again

Let my words bring joy where sorrow lurks
That will bubble up inside
Let me speak only what brings a smile
To their saddened face for just a while

Let my words bring hope to those in doubt
That will build their confidence
Let me speak only what their souls need
So that once again through faith they’ll see

Let my words bring love to everyone
That they’ll know my Savior’s heart
Let me speak encouragement to them
That they’ll lift their praise to Him again

This poem was inspired by Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

At Last

Trapped within a mine
With no food or water
Darkness settle sin
This scary small enclosure
No escape is seen
Then someone moves a boulder
Daylight streaming in
You’re free to live at last

Trapped within your sin
With no path to escape
Jesus comes to earth
He forgives by His grace
Then angels move a boulder
Now you can see His face
Forever you can praise Him
He made the way at last
