The Two Spectators

He sat there
The blind beggar
Behind the crowd
Begging for alms
He heard someone say Jesus was coming
He heard that Jesus opened blinded eyes
Could He do it for me?
Said Bartimaeus
He started to cry out
Jesus, thou Son of David
Have mercy on me
The crowd tried to quiet him
But Jesus came closer
Bartimaeus cried louder
Louder than the crowd
Jesus heard him and stopped
Called him forward
The crowd helped him up
Pushed him toward Jesus
Jesus asked what he wanted
He asked for his sight
And his wish was granted
His eyes were opened
He praised God
And followed Jesus

He lay there
Dead and buried
Grave clothes encased him
He’d been sick for days
They sent for Jesus, his friend
But Jesus did not come
It seemed he didn’t car
Lazarus knew Jesus could heal him
If He had only come
Now it was too late
Now He was dead
Jesus came after the funeral
Mary and Martha asked Him where He was
If he had only come
Jesus wept in sorrow
His friend was dead
But Jesus knew this was not unto death
He said role the stone away
He cried Lazarus come forth
And he did
Still wrapped in those grave clothes
Jesus said unwrap him
They unwrapped him
He was alive
And he followed Jesus

The crowd gathered in the city
Singing Hosannah
Waving palm branches
Throwing their cloaks before Him
As Jesus entered the city
Meek and lowly
Riding on a donkey
They thronged Him
Lazarus was there
Bartimaeus was there
Hailing Him
Thanking Him
For His touch
For His healing
The Pharisees mocked Him
Tried to put Him to shame
He told them the rocks would praise Him if the people did not
They plotted to kill Him
They would not let Him steal their crowd
He overturned the money changers tables
They were thieves
In His house of worship
The scribes sought to kill Him
That was their money
Lazarus and Bartimaeus watched
Thrilled with anticipation

He taught the crowd
He told them stories
Parables about life
About the last days
About 10 virgins
About a prodigal son
About a good Samaritan
They heard Him rebuke the scribes and Pharisees
They heard Him say he would come in glory
Lazarus and Bartimaeus were excited
Then they heard He had been taken in the night
The blessed night of the Passover
They heard He had been betrayed
He had been denied by His disciples
He had been condemned to die
They gathered with the crowd
The same crowd that cheered Him 4 days before
The temple leaders told them they must deny Him
Or be thrown from the temple
The crowd cried crucify Him
Crucify Him
Give us Barabbas instead
Lazarus and Bartimaeus were in disbelief
They whipped Him
Beat Him
Spit in Him
Mocked Him
Put a crown of thorns on His head
Out His cross on His back
Made Him carry it down the via Delarosa
All the way to Golgotha
Lazarus and Bartimaeus watched as he fell under the weight
A man named Simon helped Him
The laid Him in the cross
Nailed His hands and feet
Raised up that cross
Bartimaeus thought “He restored my sight to see this?”
Lazarus thought “He brought me back to life to see Him die?”
They were heart-broken
Yet they followed Him

The skies darkened at mid-day
He let out a cry
“Father forgive them. They know not what they do.”
Then “It is finished”
He hung His head
And He died
Lazarus and Bartimaeus stood side by side
They wept
They saw Joseph take the body
They followed to the garden
They wept
And wept
They did not understand
Why give me my sight to see this?
Why raise me up from the dead to see this?
They went back to the city and stayed there
They did not want to leave
They had no reason to leave

Then the sabbath day passed
They heard someone cry
He’s alive
Jesus is alive
They ran to the tomb
Saw the stone rolled away
Jumping and shouting and praising God
They rejoiced
Bartimaeus could see the empty tomb!
Lazarus knew what it was to raise from the dead
They knew
Beyond a shadow of a doubt
Jesus was alive
Alive forevermore
Alive for all to see
Alive for all to gain life!

He Comes For ou

She came into Bethlehem
Meek and mild
Heavy with child
Riding a donkey for many miles
Worn and weary from a long journey
Seeking room to give birth
There was none but a stable
A lowly manger filled with hay
Would be the child’s resting place
Just one stranger in the city
Teaming with visitors
No one knew her
No one cared
No one knew whom she carried in her womb
Yet at his birth
Shepherds from the field came to greet him
They were told by angels to come
Come meet the King
Come meet the Savior
He brings peace on earth
Good will to man
They came
And they bowed
And they worshipped the King
Then they left and told all
And few understood what they said
Mary knew who He was
Joseph knew who He was
But the world did not know who just arrived
In such humility
In such a place as this

He comes into the gate
Lazarus awaits
Freshly risen form the dead
Bartimaeus awaits
His eyes wide open
The crowd awaits
To praise the coming King
Riding on a donkey
Meek and mild
Heavy with His fate and what awaits Him
Not the crowd
Not the praise
But the cross He sees coming for Him
He arrives to Hosannah
Blessed be the one who comes in the name of the Lord
He arrives to praise
Palm branches waving
People shouting and singing
He arrives to death
Calvary looms large in the distance
He knows He will be beaten
He knows He will wear a crown of thorns
He knows He will be condemned to die
He knows He will be nailed to a cross
Crucified
Yet He still comes
In great humility
To fulfill His destiny
And all prophesy
To all who think they know who He is
But have no idea what will become of Him
The pain
The agony
The suffering
The loneliness of the cross
All for us
All for me
All for you

Will you welcome the King?
Will you lift your palms to worship?
Will you welcome Him today?
Give Him all your praise?
Give your life today?
He gave His for you
Now it’s your turn
Your time
Your destiny
Let Him in
Welcome Him with open arms
He comes to die
Yet He comes to save
He comes to suffer
Yet He comes to heal
He comes to forgive
Yet He takes all your sin
Take His love today
He gives it for you

It Was All For You

It was all for you
When He came to this earth
As a babe on a manger

It was all for you
When He taught of God's love
And His marvelous kingdom

It was all for you.
When he healed the sick
And caused the lame to walk

It was all for you
When He bestowed His peace
And His joy ran free

It was all for you
When he raised the dead
And opened blinded eyes

It was all for you
When He was beaten and mocked
And He carried that cross

It was all for you
The nails in His Hands
The thorns on His brow
The spear in His side
They were all for you
When he gave up the ghost
And died on the cross

It was all for you
He didn't come for Himself
To be honored and praised
He didn't come just to be
A worldly King
He came for you and me
He didn't seek to be honored
And praised among men
But to die a horrible death
He didn't die as the world would think He did
But He gave up His life for you.

Sins Defeat

I’ve fought so hard to win the victory
Yet sin still seems to have its grip on me
I’ve wandered from His teaching way to long
Now I’m not sure if I can still go on

The guilt and shame of sin wells up inside
My heart pumps hard and there’s nowhere to hid
His eyes look down on me with love and grace
He reaches out His arms and we embrace

I realize right then I’ve done it wrong
I’ve truly had the vict’ry all along
I just needed to stand on my two feet
And decide I will not walk in sins defeat

The strength to stand comes from my walk with Him
He gives me power to leave behind my sin
The longer I keep fighting, never done
For Jesus has already freedom won

My vict’ry lies within His written word
There’s nothing more I need to be secured
I lift my hands, surrender all to Him
My heart, my soul my mind and all my sin

For long ago they nailed Him to a cross
His blood cleansed all my sin, He paid the cost
And then He rose in triumph over death
So I could give to Him my every breath

Become Alive

What am I to do with this Jesus
Who is bleeding and dying on a cross?
What am I to say about His mission?
Is it all just a waste and a loss

He was King of Kings and Lord of Lords in Heaven
Now the nails pierce His hands and His feet
How can I declare He is Messiah
When it looks like He is drowning in defeat?

He cries out “It is Finished” and His head bows
It seems all hope is lost for you and me
They take Him to the tomb and seal it tightly
His life would be lost in History

But then the third day comes
The stone rolls away
The guards faint in fright
Jesus is alive

He walks out of that grave
Alive for all to see
Death is defeated
He has gained the victory

In His weakness He was strong
When all seemed lost His mercy won
He lives again for all to see
That He had come to set us free

Now He sits upon the throne
King of Kings and Lord of Lords
The true Messiah for us all
It’s time to listen for His call

He calls to you. He calls to you
Come out of death to life renewed
No more let sin reign in your life
Be born again. Become alive!

It Is Finished

I found myself kneeling before His cross
I could not explain how I felt
Tears of deep sorrow flowed from my eyes
Dripping down in the blood where I knelt

I looked up to see my Savior so dear
His body all beaten and red
I cried our "Dear Lord what shall I do"
And He looked down at me and said

It is finished your redemption is paid
It is finished your sin Is erased
Don't be sad, do not weep
Keep your heart. Keep my peace
In three days all the world will see
It is finished

I stood up and started to praise him
As He gave up a sorrowful sigh
Then His head bowed and life just left Him
I now knew my Savior had died

As I went to my home, I remembered the words
That He spoke to me from His cross
Then I fasted and prayed for those few days
Hoping soon I'd get over this loss

Then I heard great commotion outside in the street
Someone running and yelling real loud
He's Alive the kept saying
Over and over
He's alive. He's alive. He's alive

It is finished the battle is over
It is finished the victory mine
Jesus has conquered the grave and death
It is finished and He is alive

The Price You Paid

When I think of the pain you bore
And all that you’ve done for me
I can’t help but kneel at the foot of the cross
And thank you for setting me free

I was lost and drifting through life
Like a ship without a sail
You found me when I was dep in distress
And you covered me with your grace

I do not deserve this great mercy
As your love hears my desperate plea
I sit here in awe that such a great God
Would take time to rescue me

So now I will sing Thank you Jesus
For the price that you paid in the cross
I will tell all the world of your goodness
And the change in my life you have caused

For I was the chiefest of sinners
Now peace and joy reign in my heart
Thank you, dear Lord, for rescuing me
By leading me straight to the cross

I Deserved the Cross

As gentle as a Lamb
To the slaughter He was led
He did not say a word
As the blood flowed from His head

The cruelty they showed Him
He took with tender grace
The agone He suffered
He endured to take my place

I deserved the cross yet He took it all for me
I deserved the stripes that He took to set me free
I deserved the nails that pierced His feet and hands
I deserved the cross that Jesus bore for me

With the power of a lion
He rose up from the dead
Victory was in His hand
A crown upon His head

Not the crown of thorns they gave Him
But a royal crown of gold
Now He rules all of heaven
All of earth and all below

I deserved the cross yet He took it all for me
I deserved the stripes that He took to set me free
I deserved the nails that pierced His feet and hands
I deserved the cross that Jesus bore for me

He died to take my sin
He rose to give me life
Hallelujah, He has risen
Hallelujah He’s alive

I deserved the cross yet He took it all for me
I deserved the stripes that He took to set me free
I deserved the nails that pierced His feet and hands
I deserved the cross that Jesus bore for me

The Great Victory

I looked at the cross and what did I see
But Jesus my Lord looking down at me
His body was bloody and filled with pain
Then I heard Him say "I will rise again"

This cross is simply a means to an end
Soon I will die and this pain will end
They will put my body in a borrowed grave
It will seem like all hope had been erased

A stone will be rolled across the door
Guards will be placed to make it secure
I will be busy behind the scenes
Leaving this grave to take back the keys

I'll enter the realm of the devil himself
And demand that he give me the keys he has held
These keys give release from hell and the grave
So that all who had loved me now will be raised

Then I will roll the stone from the grave
The guards will be stunned and will fall down in place
I will rise victorious over death and the grave
And you will be granted new life in my name

A life filled with hope and joy and peace
A life where my mercy and grace never cease
Don't worry my child, do not be afraid
This cross that I bear brings a victory so great

The Cross For Me

The cross stood there before you
Ready to take your life
You were beaten, mocked and tortured
As the crowd cried crucify

They led you up a mountain
Exhausted you complied
Then they laid you on that cross
To suffer, bleed and die

Nails were swiftly driven
Through your wrists and feet
They raised the cross up high
So that all the world could see

All through that agony and pain
You never said a word
No slight complaint or whisper
Did you utter in return

Just a few hours later
It is finished you cried out
In that moment all of heaven
Let out a painful shout

The Son of God had given up
His life for you and me
Heaven’s Lamb, the King of Glory
Gave sin it’s last defeat

They laid Him in a borrowed tomb
A stone was put in place
Yet in three days it rolled away
From death to life, He raised

He raised my hope for heaven
He raised my peace from pain
He raised my joy from sorrow
He gave me life again

Oh, what a precious Savior
Is Jesus Christ my Lord
Forever I will praise Him
For the cross for me He bore
