The Blogosphere

Last summer was a real treat
My health was much improved
The maintenance chemo still went on
But I got in a groove

I started walking through the town
My bike was put to use
I even got out golfing
I was almost feeling new

One thing I really did enjoy
Was to tend a garden plot
It had been a very long time
Since we’d grown a healthy crop

But I must admit my first love
Was to tend my faith and hope
Taking care of that was crucial
To keep myself afloat

Now I spend most of my time
In study and in prayer
I pray that this shows up each day
In the WordPress blogosphere

Make Me Me

Can you figure it out
Does it make sense to you
That a big band just happened
Right out of the blue

Can something arrive
When nothing is there
Can complex life happen
From cells unaware

I’m bewildered, beffudled
Bewitched by belief
That any of this
Can be real and complete

This world and this space
Is much to complex
To be here by chance
As some would reflect

I will choose creation
By God as the means
That all of life happened
It makes sense to me

For if I’m an ape
As some say I should be
Then where did my purpose
Start out to be
Where did my drive
My ability
My goals and my vision
Make me me

Mercy Will Wash Over Me

Your mercy endures forever
Forever your mercy will be
When I have sinned
When I struggle within
Your mercy will wash over me

I find myself seeking refuge
From sins that have plagued me before
My hope is in you
You’ll carry me through
Your mercy is what I long for

Jesus, my Lord and Savior
Merciful Lord unto me
Jesus, my King and my Shepherd
Your mercy will wash over me

When darkness has entered my life
When I can’t seem to find my way out
You come to my aid
I become unafraid
Your mercy makes my heart to shout

Glory and honor and blessing
To Jesus my praise lifted high
Power and might and dominion
Jesus I glorify

Jesus, my Lord and Savior
Merciful Lord unto me
Jesus, my King and my Shepherd
Your mercy will wash over me

What Love

I am convinced
Fully persuaded
Knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt
With full faith
And all belief
That Jesus loves me
More than I can comprehend
More than I deserve
More than I can express
In simple words
His love for me was evident
On that day so long ago
When He talked to His disciples in the upper room
When he told them he would be leaving them
When He washed their feet
Stooping down before them
Towel and basin by His side
Wiping the dust ad grime off
Drying them carefully
When He gave them the bread
Saying this is my body
Broken for you
He gave them the wine
Saying this is my blood
Poured out for you
They walked to the garden
As He taught them
His final words to them
He prayed
While they slept
Submitting to the Father’s will
Soldiers came
He surrendered to them
Trial came
He was silent
Scourging came
He bore the stripes
Crown of thorns came
He offered His brow
Beaten and bruised
He gave His body
Trial before Pilate
He humbled Himself
Carried His cross
Though His body was worn
Nailed through His hands and feet
Onto the tree
Crucified between thieves
Took on our sins
Gave up His life
It was not taken from Him
Placed in a borrowed tomb
Sealed with a stone
What a gift he has given
When he gave Himself
For my sin
For my shame
For my guilt
For my pardon
Oh what mercy
Oh what grace
Oh what love

Reunion

I met my best friend when we were five
He’s just one week older than me
We did everything together as kids
No closer could friends ever be

In high school we drifted a little apart
He decided the Army was him
He did enroll right after school
And traveled off to Vietnam

There wasn’t much contact for 5 years
At our high school reunion we met
Our friendship picked up where it left off
Then he said something I won’t forget

He got saved when he went overseas
Now He wanted to share the good news
It took two years for it to sink in
I finally could see what He knew

Now our friendship is closer than ever
I’m enrolled in the school of grace
Sixty years come and gone with my friend
Forty years I’ve been giving God praise

Have you got an old friend who’s hurting
Maybe now it is your time to share
Call them up or stop by to see them
Let them know there’s a God that cares.

No Longer Flipped

Back when I was younger
Just starting out to drive
I got my learner’s permit
Then I tried to survive

My first car was a Fairlane
I bought it for a buck
It was my Moms before
I ran into a  truck

Then I had a Triumph
It moved at quite a clip
We had a lot of fun in that
Before it took a flip

My driving is much better
I’ve settled down in life
I now have grown up children
Plus a real gem of a wife

But one thing really changed me
From a rebel to a man
I accepted Jesus Christ
To be my Savior and my friend

Now He helps me stay on course
No wrecks will derail me
If you are stuck in life today
Trust Him to set you free

Is Fear Stalking?

I remember back when I was young
I loved the drive-in movies
We’d go in bunches to enjoy
The big screen from our Chevy’s

The movies that I liked the most
Were one’s that made me scream
Creature features were the best
I felt I had to see them

Today I steer away from fear
I’d rather have His peace
Why fill my life with dread and drear
When from fear I’m released

If fear is stalking you today
If life seems rather scary
Just ask the Lord to help you pray
He’ll take away your worry.

He Covered Me

I will not be denied
The blessings of the Lord
He’s laid them out for all the world to see
I’ll seek His will each day
I’ll draw close to His side
Then I’ll become what he wants me to be

Mercy flowing freely
For His mercy covered me
I’ll always see the best in everyone
Grace that covers mistakes
For His grace has covered me
Forgiving and forgetting those things done

Joy that never ceases
For His joy has covered me
No matter what the test I still feel blessed
Peace that calms my spirit
For His peace has covered me
The storms of life all pass me as I rest

Hope for life eternal
For His hope has covered me
Nothing can distract me from my goal
Love that knows no bounds
For His love covered me
The love of God will fill my heart and soul

Then when the day is over
When the sun is settling down
I will know that all these blessings guide my life
I’ll climb into my bed
Then I’ll lift my praise to God
For keeping me attracted to His light

I will not be denied
The blessings of the Lord
He promised them for all the world to see
You too can claim them now
There close within your grasp
Just give your all each day
Make Him your only way
Then all these blessings will be yours to keep

Survival

You say you can’t find rest
That there’s too much going on
Your brain just can’t turn off the thoughts inside
You say you can’t find joy
That this world is such a mess
The terrors are what causes you to hide

You say you can’t find hope
Because things just spin round and round
There seems to be no future up ahead
You say you can’t find love
In this crazy mixed up world
So you stay inside the safety of your head

I can sympathize with you
Because I’ve been there before
It is not a very fun place to live
One day I turned a corner
Everything became all right
I knew that surely now I would survive

You see, I met Jesus
I asked Him to save me
I asked Him to be Lord of my life
Now all the world’s distractions
Can’t phase me in the least
He’s given more than I could buy

Peace in every storm
Joy in every sorrow
Hope when all the hope escapes me
Love that’s everlasting
Mercy for all time
Grace so amazing and so free

You can know this Jesus
He can do the same for you
Just open up your heart and let Him in
You never will regret it
He’ll be there every day
To brighten up the new life you begin
