What A very Special Night

What a night, what a night, what a very special night
See the star in the sky shining oh so bright
See the shepherds watching their flocks
See the wise men follow the star
Knowing not what’s to come this very special night

Mary and Joseph travelled oh so many miles
They awaited the birth of their first child
Looking for a room at the inn
There was no room for them within
A stable would be there room for the night

The shepherds were startled by an Angelic light
Do not be afraid echoed through the night
I bring good tidings of Joy
Peace on earth for girls and boys
And a host of Angels Loud Hosannas sing

What a night, what a night, what a very special night
See the star in the sky shining oh so bright
See the shepherds watching their flocks
See the wise men follow the star
Knowing not what’s to come this very special night

They came with their flocks to find that babe
Wrapped in some clothes and laid in the hay
They knelt down to worship Him
 Assured He’s the coming King
Then for a while they would worship and stay

Mary and Joseph knew their child was special
They’d both been told of His coming arrival
 But they held their peace
 When the shepherds did speak
And asked why they were summoned by angels

What a night, what a night, what a very special night
See the star in the sky shining oh so bright
See the shepherds watching their flocks
See the wise men follow the star
Knowing not what’s to come this very special night

The wise men arrived from the east they had come
They knew that the star was a sign from above
 Their gifts they did bear
 Gold, incense and myrrh
They knelt down to worship this child filled with love

 Thus, the scene was set
 No one would forget
That the Son of God came as a babe
 And for many years
 Mary shed her tears
For she knew what a price he would pay

What a night, what a night, what a very special night
See the star in the sky shining oh so bright
See the shepherds watching their flocks
See the wise men follow the star
Knowing not what’s to come this very special night

Sinking Ground

 No one expected the angels
 No one expected the star
No one expected that shepherds would bow
Or that kings would come from afar
No one knew that a child would be born
In a manger filled with hay
Only the Father knew His plan
 On that blessed Christmas day

We hustle and bustle, thinking all is well
As presents are piled up high
We fix our great feasts and tell of good cheer
While the sun rises high in sky
We look at our children, all merry and bright
As they open their presents with glee
With great hope we look out on this beautiful day
In the land of the brave and the free

But in truth all around us the world’s fading fast
 Into a world of defeat
 Morality slowly is withered away
And a plague fills us all with disease
They speak of a cure when before there was none
All around us people bow down
We must sound the alarm in this worst of all times
We are standing on sinking ground

Our Father above sees all that transpires
He knows when the time will be right
That the trumpet will sound for all men to hear
In the clouds His Son will arrive
He will come as a thief in the night that day
No one knows when is the time
Just as He came on that Christmas Day
Only few will be chosen to rise

Are you ready for Him to appear that day?
Is your heart settled in His true grace?
Have you asked Jesus Christ to be your Lord?
Does He receive all of your praise?
On this Christmas Day give your whole life to Him
All your heart and your soul and your mind
Tomorrow may be too late my friend
And you’ll find you’re left behind
Unexpected by many He will show up
Please don’t say I’ll do it next time

Bethlehem

What yonder star is shining bright
What wonder in this dazzling light
That splits the sky and stills the night
 The star of Bethlehem

It shines down on a manger’s hay
Where just a small newborn does lay
His  mother and his father pray
 This night in Bethlehem

An angel comes to fields afar
He tells the shepherds of the star
The leave their flocks and travel far
 To little Bethlehem

This world will never be the same
Since the night this baby came
 The call Emmanuel His name
 This day in Bethlehem

And he will reign o’er all the earth
For all creation knows His worth
We all rejoice to praise His birth
 Way off in Bethlehem

So lift you’re voices high this day
Give Jesus Christ all of your praise
He came down this world to save
 To chosen Bethlehem

The Cross Was the Reason

When I think about the manger, I think about the cross
All the wondrous things God did on those two days
The first tells of the birth of the precious Son of God
To bring to us the dawn of peace and grace

The shepherds in the field show all are welcome there
The kings who came with gifts show us His worth
The star was like a beacon that anyone could see
But only few received the Saviors birth

The manger shows His meekness and deep humility
That the Son of God would come to such a place
The inn shows us that many would turn the babe away
Refusing to partake of God’s sweet grace

The cross shows us His passion for every single one
The bruises and the scars He took for us
His cry of please forgive them rings down throughout all time
Showing that our God is true and just

He gave His mother comfort from the agony He felt
As He gave John the charge to care for her
His cry of don’t forsake me shows His bitter taste of death
For the first time He was parted from His Father

When He cried it is finished all creation should have bowed
To the King who gave His life for all mankind
The plan of our redemption was finally complete
And His death would be a light for all of time

But it was not finished, the story’s not complete
Three days later He arose from death to life
Now He lives forevermore and He reigns from High above
Providing for us all eternal life

Yes, the manger stands so tall as a beacon in the dark
Of a world that’s full of sin and much despair
But you cannot see the manger as a symbol by itself
The cross was the reason that He came

Christmas Poetry

This Night

This night is a holy night.
With the star shining brightly in the sky
 Where the child lay
This night is a holy night.
For the spirit of God has come to stay
In a stable filled with hay.
 It’s a Holy Night

This star is a holy star.
Shining so brightly in the sky
 There to light the way
This star is a holy star.
Giving light to Mary’s newborn babe
He has come the world to save.
 It’s a Holy Star.

All of heaven rejoices, singing hallelujah
 Emmanuel has come to earth
Angels ring in His coming on this glorious day
The son of God has come to save

This child is a holy child.
The angels proclaim His lowly birth
 To shepherds in the field
This child is a holy child.
Kings bearing gifts come from afar
And they kneel before the child.
 He’s a Holy Child.

Lift up your voice and sing praise to the newborn king
Good will to man and peace on earth He brings
Join with the chorus as angels sing
Praises to the King.  Sing praises to the King!

All of heaven rejoices, singing hallelujah
 Emmanuel has come to earth
Angels ring in His coming on this glorious day
The son of God has come to save

Chosen Star

I look up at the stars
And I see the Master’s plan
He placed them one by one
 Before our time began

 All down through the ages
Those stars have shown their light
 Always in formation
To guide us in the night

Then one night, a change was seen
 One star was singled out
To shine much brighter than the rest
 A loud celestial shout

On brightest star, Oh chosen star
 You shine your glorious light
To lead us all to Christ the King
 On this most Holy night

This star then found its special place
 To shine those brighter rays
It took its place above a town
Where God’s own Son was laid

Three kings had seen the star so bright
 From lands so far away
They came to bring gifts to the child
In a manger filled with hay

 Gold, because He’s royalty
 As priest, the Frankincense
 Myrrh, anointing for His death
 Which would be so intense

On brightest star, Oh chosen star
 You shine your glorious light
To lead us all to Christ the King
 On this most Holy night
