Freely Given

When I observe the heavens and the way the stars are placed
I cannot help but stand and be amazed
When I observe the earth and all the beauty it contains
I cannot help but give God all the praise

When I observe a sinner that repents in earnest prayer
I cannot help but marvel at God’s grace
When I observe a life that by His mercy has been changed
I cannot help but lift my voice in praise

Of all the observations we can make upon this earth
And all the things that God supplies us with
No greater thing will mesmerize our hearts and souls alike
Than the love that God through Christ so freely gives

Change of Direction

Sometimes changes come slowly
Like growing your hair real long
Sometimes they come a bit quicker
Like dying that hair summer blonde

Then there are times change is sudden
Your life takes a turn quite abrupt
One day your steeped in darkest sin
The next day true joy erupts

That is what happens when Jesus
Is asked to come into your life
He brings with Him peace and hope
He makes you feel more alive

If you need a change of direction
If your life is following doom
Today you can make a difference
Just open your heart and make room

The Day of Salvation

I dreamed I was rising to heaven
Jesus waited for me in the clouds
He had come back just as He promised
The trumpet had sounded aloud

I could see others rising beside me
All colors and ages were there
This day we had all been awaiting
When we would meet our dear Lord in the air

Then I looked for my friends and my neighbors
There were many making the flight
But several were not rising with me
I feared they had not seen the light

They had not asked the Lord to forgive them
Of the sins that He died for that day
They had not asked Him to be their Savior
They had not followed in His way

I know I had told them the good news
That Jesus had died for their sins
But they never decided for certain
Thinking there would be time in the end

For a moment a sadness was present
At knowing they were left behind
But His joy quickly came in and calmed me
As His presence filled up my mind

I hope if you’re reading this poem
That Jesus is Savior and Lord
If not take a moment this instant
To give Him your heart and your soul

For we don’t know the hour or the moment
When He comes there will be no more time
Today is the day of salvation
It is time to make up your mind

I Am Forgiven

I was happy
I had no regrets.
I had lived the way I wanted to
And no bad happened yet
But then I met a man who had more joy
Than I had ever seen
I knew I wanted some of that
So he told me where he’d been

I‘ve been forgiven
My sins are gone.
He bled and died to take away
All my guilt and shame
He stretched his arms out wide
On Calvary’s tree
That I might live
Eternally

Well I was baffled
At what he said.
I never heard of a man and a tree
So I asked him to explain
Then he told me the story of Jesus
And my soul was filled with pain
I knew that I was heading wrong
And it was time for a change

So I knelt down
On my knees to pray:
Dear Jesus please forgive me
And help me find my way
I put my trust in you dear Lord
To guide me day by day
And then I knew down in my spirit
I would never be the same.

I am forgiven
My sins are gone.
He bled and died to take away
All my guilt and shame
He stretched his arms out wide
On Calvary’s tree
That I might live
Eternally

If you kneel down
On your knees and pray
Dear Jesus please forgive my sins
And help me find my way
I put my trust in you dear Lord
To guide me day by day
Then He’ll come into your heart
And you will never be the same

You’ll be forgiven
You’ll be set free
He bled and died to take away
All your guilt and shame
He stretched His arms out wide
On Calvary’s tree
So you could live
Eternally

Similar Paths

I was a sinner
Dazed and confused
Just barely getting through life
My life was spiraling
Out of control
Drugs and booze helped me survive

I finally came
To a fork in the road
I heard of a Savior above
They needed no mallet
To beat into me
That I needed this Saviors love

I bowed on my knees
And prayed a short prayer
I felt a change come over me
And since that great day
I truly am saved
And I long to be all I can be

If your life is headed
Down similar paths
And you’d like a way of escape
Call out to Jesus
Give Him your life
Trust Him before it’s too late

Hold Onto Jesus

I’ve got to hold onto Jesus and let go of me
If I want to be all that I can be
There’s a much better life just waiting for me
If I’ll hold onto Jesus and let go of me

My life was tangled and tortured
The sin stains were all in display
I had quite a collection of terrible things
Seems I never could find the right way

I was destined for doom and misfortune
My path seemed to be laid out
In a stupor I headed to church one day
To see what the fuss was about

When I walked in the door they were singing
Their voices were filled with great joy
I sat in the back wondering what to do next
As my head split in two from the noise

When singing was finished the preacher got up
He shouted out Praise the Lord
Then He said is there one who does not know the way
It’s time for you now to come forward

I don’t know what compelled me to rise to my feet
I slowly walked up to the front
The tears started flowing as prayers were uplifted
The pastor then gave me a hug

As he stood there with arms wrapped around me
He said Jesus Loves you my son
Confess all your sins
Give your life up to Him
You’ll never regret when it’s done

I closed my eyes
I bowed my head
I prayed that prayer
My heart leapt from my chest
The peace that came in
And the joy that I felt
I knew something changed
Inside I could tell
I raised up my arms and began to rejoice
Thank you sweet Jesus for saving my soul
The people all lifted their voice in sweet praise
I knew that my life had drastically changed

As I left that old church later on in the day
I made up my mind to not turn away
I’d hold onto new life the old was now gone
I’d hold onto Jesus and sing this new song

I’ve got to hold onto Jesus and let go of me
If I want to be all that I can be
There’s a much better life just waiting for me
If I’ll hold onto Jesus and let go of me

Lamb of God

Lamb of God so gentle
A dove would rest on you
A sign of your compassion for us all
Humble meek and lowly
You bowed and were baptized
You are God’s Son in whom He is well pleased

Lamb of God so humble
Ministered to all
Healed the sick and made the blind to see
Fed the multitude
Washed disciples’ feet
Gave your life to save humanity

Lamb of God so mighty
You sit upon the throne
Ten thousand times ten thousand worship you
Cherubim and Seraphim
Join the joyful throng
Holy, holy, holy is your name

Jesus Lamb of God
Sacrifice for all
Gave His life for me
Died upon the cross
Rose again to give
Eternal life to all
Blessed be your name
Jesus Christ the Lamb of God

My Packed Truck

Been doing some destruction
Changing storage to a hall
To make room for a sliding door
That needs to be installed

The drywall and the two-by-fours
Are packed up in my truck
We’ll take them to the landfill soon
Once roads aren’t filled with muck

In life it’s so much harder”
To rid ourselves of stuff
We haul it all around with us
Until it hurts to much

Jesus came to take that mess
The weight that burdens you
Just ask Him to forgive your sin
He’ll let you start brand new

Wandered Off?

I grew up in Sunday School
Attended every week
When teenage years arrived
I even helped to teach

I went astray much later
Early twenties were a mess
My life became a party
Of God I could care less

But even with that background
Of church at every turn
The prospect of salvation
Was foreign as a term

Then I heard one day
That Jesus died for me
Despite all of my past
I still His child could be

I quit the party life
I gave my life to Him
And now I am set free
From all my guilt and sin

If you have wandered off
And God seems far away
Ask Jesus for His grace
He’ll save your soul today

Delivered

Out of bondage
Out of pain
Out of darkness
Out of shame

Out of blindness
Out of fear
Out of heartache
Out of tears

Out of sadness
Out of need
Out of chaos
Out of greed

He delivered me
My God delivered me
Upon that tree
He died for me
Yes He delivered me

Into freedom
Into health
Into His light
Into wealth

Into new sight
Into faith
Into blessings
Into grace

Into such joy
Into all
Into His peace
Into full

He delivered me
My God delivered me
Upon that tree
He died for me
Yes He delivered me
