Effective Prayer

I Give My Call

I come to you this morning
Down on my knees in prayer
There is no fear or worry
I know that you are here

I see the sun arising
I hear the birds new song
You made all of creation
Just so I could sing along

As the sun brings light from darkness
You alone will bring me joy
Help me stay right here before you
Help me stand up and rejoice

I cry out to you my Lord
I bow down before your throne
You are all that I have longed for
Make me yours, yours alone

I lift up my hands to worship
God of glory, Lord of all
This is how I start my morning
Unto you I give my call

My days are full. I have a lot of jobs and responsibilities and can get very busy and distracted as he day wears on. Correcting maps, selling insurance, working the garden, caring for the dog, cooking various meals, writing my poetry and other projects, reading, devotions, preparing he worship services, recording lessons and so much more make it a hectic day once things get going. That is why I choose the mornings to come to my Lord in prayer. If I waited until later in the day I would rarely take the time. Now don’t get me wrong, I pray when the Spirit leads me to throughout the day. It would be interesting to make a note each time God brings someone to my remembrance and I pray for them at that moment. I do not do that because I think God intends these type of prayers to be private. The morning is my main time with God because it is uninterrupted and quiet. I can hear Him when it is quiet. I can hear Him when I am still, before the chaos of the day creeps in. That is why I choose the mornings to spend time with my Savior. It’s by far the best of times!

Psalm 63:1a King James Version (KJV)
63 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee:

I See

I see beauty all around me
I see life abundantly
I see healing for my weakness
In my storms I see His peace
I see hope for my tomorrows
I see love for all I meet
When I keep my eyes on Jesus
All I see is victory

I see joy within my sorrows
I see freedom for the bound
I see the lame man leaping
I see the lost are found
I see hearing for the deaf
I see all the blind can see
When I keep my eyes on Jesus
All I see us victory

There is nothing too hard
Nothing to small
Nothing escapes Him
God sees it all
His timing is perfect
His love is immense
When I look to Jesus
My faith will be blessed

I see rest when I’m weary
I see faith when I doubt
I see comfort when teary
Jesus makes a way out
I see oceans of mercy
I see mountains of grace
I see vict’ry abounding
When I look on His face

There is nothing too hard
Nothing to small
Nothing escapes Him
God sees it all
His timing is perfect
His love is immense
When I look to Jesus
My faith will be blessed

Feeding Time

It seems it’s a natural occurrence
To eat and drink plenty each day
It’s something we do by instinct
To survive there’s no other way

But there is another part to us
That needs  to nourished as much
The spirit that lives within us
Is hungry to feel wisdom’s touch

Your body is well taken care of
Your spirit guides you in this world
Make sure that you feed your spirit
For me that means time in God’s word

Joseph and Mary’s Prayer

A little babe lay sleeping
In a stable filled with hay
His mom and dad were watching
For they knew this was His day

They knew He brought God’s bounty
For salvation to all men
And as He rested quietly
They prayed and bowed their heads

Saying thank you Lord for trusting us
With the gift of your own Son
Please give us wisdom daily
To raise Him as you’d want

And when He’s grown and ready
To fulfill His earthly call
Help us give Him back to you, Lord
That He can do your all

And the bounty that He brings us
Is His mercy and His grace
And the love that He bestows on us
As we lift our hearts in praise

A Christmas Prayer

The day is finally here
A day of mirth and good cheer
We’ve waited this long
And sung all the songs
That deck the halls this year

The Christmas tree shines so bright
And the houses are covered with lights
The presents are many
The foods getting ready
And soon we’ll all wake from the night

The children flock to the tree
And open their presents with glee
Paper flies everywhere
Parents laugh without a care
They just hope the children are pleased

Once all the presents are open
It’s time for the feast to begin
We sit at the table
And all who are able
Take turns as we start to dig in

Then a gentle hand says wait
Let’s take a minute to pray
So they all bow their heads
As these words are said
To give God the thanks for this day

Oh, the joy of Christmas
Glad tidings we all sing
Blessed Hallelujahs
To the King of Kings
Glory in the highest
Emmanuel is here
Let’s not forget the reason
For this special time of year

Because God sent His son
In a manger bed He lay
Such a simple start
Yet we celebrate this day
Because that little babe
Gave His life our debt to pay
And now we’re born again
If we follow in His way

There’s a hush that fills the room
As a little child says
I want to follow Him
Will you show me the way?
And right there at the table
Before the meal begins
We pray the sinner’s prayer
And that child has entered in

Oh, the joy of Christmas
Glad tidings we all sing
Blessed Hallelujahs
To the King of Kings
Glory in the highest
Emmanuel is here
Let’s not forget the reason
For this special time of year

This Christmas

Amidst all of the packages
That sit under the tree
As I look around the house
Decorated in beauty
And I smell the sweet aroma
Of the up and coming feast
I can’t help but think of Him

And when the day is over
And the crowd is heading home
I will sit in my nice lounge chair
And my mind will surely roam
Perhaps I’ll take a nap
As I take some time alone
To give thanks to my Savior and Lord

Let’s lift up holy hands
To Jesus Christ our Lord
This Christmas
Let’s lift our voices high
To the one that we adore
This Christmas

Let’s fully magnify
The one who came to die
Let’s shout aloud our praise
Because He gave us life
Let’s worship the great name
Of our Savior Jesus Christ
This Christmas Day

He came to earth a babe
And in a manger lay
He gave up heavens throne
To come to earth this day
Shepherds came to worship
Wise Man kneeled and prayed
As they gave their gifts Him that day

He grew to be a man
Anointed from above
And then condemned to die
To show us of His love
He gave His life for me
His mercy is enough
This Christmas Day

Let’s lift up holy hands
To Jesus Christ our Lord
This Christmas
Let’s lift our voices high
To the one that we adore
This Christmas

Let’s fully magnify
The one who came to die
Let’s shout aloud our praise
Because He gave us life
Let’s worship the great name
Of our Savior Jesus Christ
This Christmas Day

My Christmas Gift

I searched for a gift this Christmas

A gift I could give to all

It would have to be inexpensive

And hopefully rather small

I shopped on the net for days

And nothing seemed quite right

So I went to some stores in the city

And I looked for several nights

But the perfect gift was elusive

Nothing I saw seemed to fit

I started to think it was hopeless

But then found the perfect gift

It was free to any who wanted

It was small, so I’d keep it in hand

It was easy to give out to others

I decided that this fit the plan

This gift didn’t need to be wrapped up

And it wasn’t some cute little toy

All I had to do was give it

The recipient would have much joy

I’m giving Jesus this Christmas

I’m telling my friends of His love

I’m sharing with them His salvation

And His mercy that rains from above

I’ll share with them the Christmas story

And the Easter story as well

They will hear how much He loves them

They’ll be touched by the story I tell

This gift will last them a lifetime

And they’ll live for eternity

Safe in the arms of the Savior

Forever they will be free

This Christmas give all a present

That will last for the rest of time

Give everyone Jesus

And give them the gift of life.

Gift Of Love

It was anything but silent
In Bethlehem that day
The streets were full of travelers
Who finally found their way

A census had been called for
And the rules were very clear
Every man had to go back to
The tribal village through the years

Joseph lived in Nazareth
With Mary, full with child
They had to travel many days
And cover many miles

When they arrived in Bethlehem
There was no place to stay
They found a shelter for the night
In a stable filled with hay

The child was born next morning
In a manger he was laid
It seemed a normal birth to them
As the looked down at the babe

Then shepherds came and told them
Of an angel choir that night
That had come to them alone
They were fearful of the sight

The shepherds shared the words
That the angels had proclaimed
Peace on earth was come today
And goodwill to all of man

Mary smiled at hearing
The story that they told
For she knew this special child
Was the Son of God foretold

As the morning sun was rising
The baby slept in hay
Now the Son of God had come
His gift of love was here to stay

Is your heart prepared for Jesus
Have you made some room for Him
He wants to share His love with you
Oh won’t you ask Him in

Music To My Ears

When I think about the fact

That He left His royal throne

I can’t help but praise His name

When I think about the fact

In a stable He was born

I can’t help but praise His name

When I think about the star

That led the wise men there

And the great angelic choir

That the shepherds saw in fear

When I think about His love

To become a babe so dear

I can’t help but praise His name

Bless His name.  His mighty name

The name of Jesus is so sweet and so fair

Bless His name.  The matchless name

The name of Jesus is music to my ears

When I think about the fact

He bore the stripes for me

I can’t help but praise His name

When I think about the fact

That He died to set me free

I can’t help but praise His name

When I think about the pain

That He endured for me

How He gave His life for all

That day at Calvary

When I think about the grace

That He poured out for me

I can’t help but praise His name

Bless His name.  His mighty name

The name of Jesus is so sweet and so fair

Bless His name.  The matchless name

The name of Jesus is music to my ears

I’ll sing His praise

Every day

With Loudest voice

And hands up-raised

I’ll lift Him high

With all my might

The wondrous name

Of Jesus

Bless His name.  His mighty name

The name of Jesus is so sweet and so fair

Bless His name.  The matchless name

The name of Jesus is music to my ears

The Reason

Bells and lights and bows of holly

Certainly can lead to folly

If we take our eyes of why there here

At Christmas time we celebrate

With food and drink and parties late

The reason for the season isn’t clear

So lets review the story

How Jesus came from glory

To become a sacrifice for all our sin

This baby in the manger

Saved  me from timeless danger

And gave me peace and joy within

So in this Christmas season

Let’s not forget the reason

We celebrate December 25th

It’s not for winter folly

Or a fat man who is jolly

But a Savior in a manger at His birth
