Sound Steady

I cannot guess the timing
For no one knows the day
The time of His arriving
Is not too far away

I pray that you are ready
To answer His great call
The trumpet will sound steady
And He will gather all

All who call Him Savior
All who call Him Lord
If you have His favor
If He your heart adores

I may be premature
By thinking you are saved
If you’re not really sure
Please get saved today!

Be on Guard

I’m going through chemo so I wear a mask
Protecting from germs is the point of that task
My whole immune system is shot from the drugs
I don’t need to end up diseased with a bug

But there’s something else I must guard against
The sin that will infect my soul is intense
It creeps in so subtly and plants itself deep
If I will make sure my guard does not sleep

But if I should get caught away in my sin
I have a Savior who heals me within
He gave himself freely at Calvary
Now His grace and mercy will be there for me

Out of the Fog

There are times when I am restless
There are times when I am down
There are times when life seems useless
And I feel so all alone
In those days when I am weary
I will go to God In Prayer
When I bring to Him my query
I will find an answer this

He hears my cry
All the time
He hears my prayer
He’s always there
I never have to worry or be afraid
Because I know that I have prayed.

There are times when I am hungry
There are times when I’m in doubt
There are times I feel unworthy
When my faith has given out
In those days when I am weary
I will lift my voice in praise
When I bring Him all the glory
He will bless all of my days

He hears my cry
All the time
He hears my prayer
He’s always there
I never have to worry or be afraid
Because I know that I have prayed.

I’ll cry out to Jesus
I’ll lift up His name
He is my refuge
He lights my way
When I am down
When I feel lost
Jesus will lift me
Out of the fog

He hears my cry
All the time
He hears my prayer
He’s always there
I never have to worry or be afraid
Because I know that I have prayed.

His Blessings Flow

When it comes to the mercy of my God
I don’t know where to start
He gave His only beloved Son
To purify my heart

When I think of the grace that he bestows
The list grows rather long
Day after day His blessings flow
And to me they belong

And when I think of the patience He and with me
I don’t know where to begin
I was running from Him for oh so long
I’m sure it was running thin

But He loved me then and He loves me know
And He’ll love me forevermore
I can  only lift up my heart and sing
To my precious, wondrous Lord

Royal Pedigree

He cam to a manger, cold and bare
To be born of a lowly virgin there
He grew as a son to a carpenter
Learning the trade and how to work

He taught only what He heard from above
He showed us all of His Father’s love
He served day and night as the people came
He treated them all as they were the same

Then they hailed Him as soon and coming King
They shouted Hosanna His praises they sing
A few days later they had changed their cry
They looked up at Him and cried crucify

They beat Him and mocked Him and laughed Him to scorn
They put on His head a crown of long thorns
They made Him carry His cross down the street
Then they put long sharp spikes in His hands and feet

He gave up His life on the cross that day
He died for us all and the price He did pay
He left heaven’s home to set us free
He put aside His royal pedigree

For God loved us so much He gave us His son
That all who believed in this meek holy one
Would find that their life would now be set free
And they’d live in heaven eternally

No Pretending

I look around at all the people running to and fro
I cannot help but wander where they all will go
For one day soon the clouds will part above
Jesus will return and gather those who He does love

I cannot look and see which ones will go with Him that day
I cannot determine who has followed in His ways
You see there’s only one thing that will qualify us then
Only one slight difference that no one can pretend

We must have Jesus as our Lord and Savior of our lives
We must have seen out wretchedness and asked Him to forgive
We must have turned away from things displeasing in His sight
We must now walk with Him each day and follow in His light

Will you be one to rise and meet Him on that fateful day
Will you avoid the wrath of God that’s coming anyway
If you have not decided yet and given Him your heart
Make today the day that you ask Him to be Lord

In response to the daily prompt Slight

He’s Always Enough

When I think of His mercy
His wonderful mercy
My heart has to give Him praise to

And when I think of His grace
Amazing grace
I lift up His holy name

When I think of the day
He died for me
I’m awed by His undying love

When I think that He’s with me
Every day
I know that He’s always enough

He’s always enough for me
He meets all my deepest needs
When I was lost
He paid the cost
He’s always enough for me

When I think of this world
And all that it offers
It simply cannot compare

To the blessings He promises
In His word
They come true to me every day

When I think of the heaven
That waits for me
Because He gave His life for me

I’ll keep pressing on
To draw closer to Him
And one day His face I will see

He’s always enough for me
He meets all my deepest needs
When I was lost
He paid the cost
He’s always enough for me

Metamorphosis

Creeping
Crawling
Slowly moving
Along the ground
Up the trunk
Out on the branch
Onto the leaf
Food to eat
Bound to the branch
So as not to fall
Encumbered by this world
A slow but steady life

Spinning
Weaving
Slowly surrounding
Strong cord attached
Hanging from that branch
Encased in the cocoon
Waiting in the tomb
Bound to the branch
So as not to fall
Encumbered by itself
Waiting
Waiting

Opening
Revealing
Glorious beauty
Wings of flight
Emerge from the cocoon
Flying high for all to see
Landing on the leaf
Free from the branch
No more bound
Unencumbered
New life
Freedom

Trying
Yearning
Our souls cry out
Desiring freedom from sin
From our wicked ways
Christ crawls on the cross
He enters the tomb
He arises anew
Bringing new life in His wings
No more bound to sin
We are free to soar
Free from sin
Free forevermore

Fall of Colors

Forty short years ago I moved to Iowa
Flatland met me with corn grown tall
Storms of summer cold of winter
Harvest time takes over fall

One thing I missed from dear old Mass
Was the woodlands deep and wide
In fall the colors were so bright
That’s when homesick still abides

I came out here to seek the Lord
Best decision I ever made
I could not see the forest for the trees
When it came to life back then

Now life is so much clearer
My purpose is renewed
If you need something more from life
Just look to Christ our Lord
