The Good Stuff

There’s a country song I hear at work every day
It has a nice chorus that is easy to say
But the truth that it tells is certain enough
“Dad makes good whiskey but God makes the good stuff”

The good stuff that God makes is stark in contrast
To the whiskey that might be drunk from a flask
It got me to thinking about all the things
That the blessing of God to me each day brings

Whiskey inebriates ‘til we’ve lost control
God gives His Spirit to guide us all home
Whiskey tastes bitter and softens the mind
God’s word is sweet to the soul all the time

Whiskey gives mornings when sickness will last
God give the sunrise whose beauty is vast
Whiskey makes evenings bewildered and blind
God makes sunsets that are wonderfully fine

Whiskey can make our decisions quite wrong
God gives us wisdom to help us along
Whiskey can cost us our lives after time
God gives new life that’s eternally mine

Whiskey will lead us down dangerous roads
God guides us gently and carries our load
Whiskey can bring us to a crash of the mind
God keeps us safe in His arms all the time

You see my dear friends that this song is true
But the truth in its words I think hide from you
All of this good stuff that God has in store
Is only for you if you’ll give Him more

More of your heart to Him every day
More of your mind and more of your ways
More of your strength needs to come from Him
More of your soul must be cleansed within

Today if that whiskey is lord of your life
Why not give that up for the Lord Jesus Christ
He will bless you beyond your wildest dreams
Repent today and in Jesus believe

Your Glory

What makes us different than all the other beasts
The bear and the squirrel, the otter and geese?
What is it that makes us humans unique?
It’s the glory.  The glory of the Lord.

What gives us the right to call on the Lord?
What helps us to follow His life-giving word?
What is it that leads us to eternal rewards?
It’s the glory.  The glory of the Lord

His glory is life giving, shining so bright.
His glory is healing. His glory gives light.
His glory shines through every darkness of night.
His glory extends to the highest height

What is it that draws us so close to Him?
What is it that settles His love deep within?
What is it that will bring our Lord back again?
It’s the glory.  The glory of the Lord

His glory brings peace in the midst of the storm.
His glory brings shelter and keeps our hearts warm
His glory will keep our soul joyful and calm
His glory will hold me safe in His arms

Thank you, Lord, for your glory today
‘It guides us and leads us and shows us the way
Your glory is what provides mercy and grace
Your glory is all that I need

I Will Wait On You

 I wait on you Lord
 For you give me strength
You lift me up above the tempest
You set my feet on higher ground
You instill peace down in my soul

 I wait on you Lord
 For you give me health
You favor me with your loving breath
You smile on me as I recover
You breath life into my soul

 I wait on you Lord
 For you give me purpose
You guide me through hard places
You show me the path to take
 You whisper to my soul

 I wait on you Lord
You are my all in all
 You are my heart's desire
 You are my everything
 So I wait.

He Could Have

He could have let me die
Swallowed by my sin
He could have left me trapped
By the demons deep within
He could have turned his back
On all my misery
He could have but He didn’t
By His grace He set me free

He could have kept his joy
And left me in despair
He could have kept his peace
And left my life impaired
He could have kept his hope
And left me with no plan
He could have but he didn’t
By His grace he took my hand

What great mercy
What great love
That sent my Savior weeping
To die upon a cross
What great mercy
What great love
He thought my life worth saving
His grace more than enough

He could have curbed my faith
So doubt would fill my mind
He could have withheld goodness
So that I would not be kind
He could have left me reeling
In sickness and disease
He could have but He didn’t
Instead he blesses me

What great mercy
What great love
That sent my Savior weeping
To die upon a cross
What great mercy
What great love
He thought my life worth saving
His grace more than enough

One day he will come back to welcome me home
He could have stayed in heaven and be worshipped on His throne
He chose to come and take for me the torture of the cross
He could have let me die in sin but instead He paid the cost

What great mercy
What great love
That sent my Savior weeping
To die upon a cross
What great mercy
What great love
He thought my life worth saving
His grace more than enough
