Wandered Off?

I grew up in Sunday School
Attended every week
When teenage years arrived
I even helped to teach

I went astray much later
Early twenties were a mess
My life became a party
Of God I could care less

But even with that background
Of church at every turn
The prospect of salvation
Was foreign as a term

Then I heard one day
That Jesus died for me
Despite all of my past
I still His child could be

I quit the party life
I gave my life to Him
And now I am set free
From all my guilt and sin

If you have wandered off
And God seems far away
Ask Jesus for His grace
He’ll save your soul today

The Stone Was Rolled

He came to Bethany that day
He heard the news but then delayed
His good friend sick in bed did lay
He waited several days

Then He heard His friend was dead
He then did go to see His friend
He knew what God would do ahead
His perfect plan was laid

The sisters of His friend did weep
They knew their brother did not sleep
They laid him in a tomb to keep
And rolled a stone to seal

They met Jesus on the way
If you had been here he’d be safe
They wept as they showed Him the place
Where the tomb was sealed

Jesus wept then raised His eyes
He prayed that God be glorified
He looked the men right in the eye
Now roll away that stone

When it was moved He made a cry
Lazarus come forth to life
The dead came forth with head held high
Unwrap him and go home

A few days later Christ was dead
His borrowed tomb was sealed in dread
A stone slab had become His bed
But He had other plans

An angel came and rolled the stone
Jesus came forth to gain His throne
Death was defeated, sin atoned
Now on His word we stand

A Glorious Plan

I can’t always see
Where this road is lead
I can’t always know
What His grace will bestow
I can’t always understand
The way of His master plan
But I know all things work for my good

Whether sickness or pain or trial of faith
Whether heartache or sorrow or doubt for tomorrow
No matter what comes I know He’s right there
His hope is my refuge His grace is my stay

He has a plan that nothing can change
Full of blessings prepared just for me
As I walk by faith
In His mercy and grace

Be A Star

I see your sunny smile
I see your well-kept hair
I see your stunning outfit
I see the shoes you wear

I see your sparkling eyes
I see your earrings bright
I see your walking gait
As you stroll past in the light

These things are all wonderful
They mean so much to you
But what is most important
Is invisible to view

I love the mercy that you show
To others facing need
I see such grace in words you use
They’re kind and very sweet

I hear you say the best of things
To all who come around
I know you’re thinking good thoughts
About those who are down

You see it’s not the way we look
That makes us be a star
It’s how we act toward others
That makes us who we are

Aware

I look straight in the mirror
Getting ready for the day
Hope I look identical
To what the image says

I get all straight and handsome
I comb my hair out right
Shaved and clean and ready
To get out in the light

One thing I can’t quite fix up
While standing in that place
Is attitude that I will bring
Into this bright new day

That needs to start beforehand
While on my knees in prayer
Asking God to make this day
Be one that I’m aware

Aware of hurting all around
Aware of needs I see
Aware that people need a smile
They need a friend from me

Though I may look all perfect
On the outside to the world
I need to make sure inside
I am walking in the Word

1,000

This is post 1,000 on this blog which started on March 5, 2016.  That was 5 days before I was diagnosed with cancer.  Only God knew He was going to give me this many poems and songs in the next two years.  Only God knew the words He would have me write.  Only God knew who would read.

I want to thank all of you for your encouragement, comments, likes and just for reading.  This community has held me up all the way through this battle with Multiple Myeloma.  I am in he waning stages – 6 months of maintenance chemo to go, 9 months in remission.  It is your prayers that have made that happen – God has heard you.

Since this is post #1,000,  thought I’d repost the very first one that came onto this blog.  No followers, no likes, no one read this at that time.  Enjoy – and thank you again!

It’s time to lift Him up
It’s time to praise His name
It’s time to put aside our petty thoughts
And lift our voice in praise

It’s time it worship Him
It’s time to raise our voice
It’s time to stop all our complaining
And start to shout “Rejoice”

For He is worthy, worthy, worthy of our praise
He is holy, holy, holy is His name
Our task is very clear
To Him we lend our ear
He calls us into His courts to sing
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah to the Lord
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah to the Lord

Lift Him up, Lift Him up
Come and praise His name
Lift Him up, Lift Him up
Name above all names
Lift Him up, Lift Him up
So that all may know
Lift Him up, Lift Him up
How He loves them so

For He is worthy, worthy, worthy of our praise
He is holy, holy, holy is His name
Our task is very clear
To Him we lend our ear
He calls us into His courts to sing
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah to the Lord
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah to the Lord

Delivered

Out of bondage
Out of pain
Out of darkness
Out of shame

Out of blindness
Out of fear
Out of heartache
Out of tears

Out of sadness
Out of need
Out of chaos
Out of greed

He delivered me
My God delivered me
Upon that tree
He died for me
Yes He delivered me

Into freedom
Into health
Into His light
Into wealth

Into new sight
Into faith
Into blessings
Into grace

Into such joy
Into all
Into His peace
Into full

He delivered me
My God delivered me
Upon that tree
He died for me
Yes He delivered me

Settled

Darkness meets my eyes
As I awaken from my sleep
I thank the Lord for breath
And that my soul He keeps

I rise to greet the morn
As the light begins to show
The pink blush on the clouds
Comes before the rising glow

As I watch the changing colors
At the breaking of the day
I can’t help giving thanks
For this day that He has made

For I know that He’ll be with me
From dawn until the dusk
I’ll  never feel the need
To depend on any luck

When He is with me all that comes
Will only make me strong
For in His arms I’m settled
And to Him I belong

Unbroken

Unbroken peace
He gives to me
Amidst the storm
He calms the sea

Unbroken joy
In darkest night
From deep within
He’s my delight

Unbroken hope
In times of doubt
Whatever comes
He brings me out

Unbroken grace
That flows so free
When I fall down
He pardons me

Unbroken love
Will never fail
I may give up
But He prevails

Unbroken praise
To Christ my Lord
I’ll lift His name
Forevermore

Tried and True

This world is full of wonder
This world is full of life
This world is full of sorrow
This world is full of strife

This world is full of chaos
This world is full of fear
This world is full of friendship
This world has love for me

So many different feelings
Flood our minds each day
We all have to determine
Which path we’re going to take

If you get discouraged
Because you turned aside
Take time to find patience
Within your daily life

You are His creation
His love is tried and true
Keep that promise close
His grace will cover you
