Rock of Ages

When the storm clouds gather
And the North wind roars
Do not be discouraged
God will make you soar
High above your troubles
Where the sky is clear
You’re on higher ground
When the Lord is near

He lifts me up to higher ground
He calms my soul without a sound
I know I’m safe when He’s around
He is my rock of ages

Rock of ages, fortress strong
Rock of ages, I’ll go on
Jesus, Lord, please keep me safe
You’re my rock of ages

David writes many psalms about the one who is his fortress, his refuge, his strong tower. There will be storms that rage in our lives. There will be trouble on ever side. There will be heartache and there will be strife. But Jesus says He has overcome the world! He has overcome to bring us joy, peace, and hope. His love has brought us up out of the grave of sin and set our feet on solid ground. He is our rock and our fortress strong.

So don’t get lost in the storm. I live in the Midwest and we get blizzards quite often out here. The first thing they tell you is not to get out of your car if you are stranded. In a blizzard you can easily get disoriented and turned around if you start walking. Stay in the car. Stay in Jesus loving arms when the storm comes. Strand on the Rock and you will be safe.

Isaiah 26:4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
4 “Trust in the LORD forever, For in [a]GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock.

You Can Do It

I walk through the valley alone and afraid
Not knowing what will appear
The shadows surround me and I lose my way
I finally succumb to my fear

I try to escape the darkness and gloom
The sin that has hold on my life
Then I hear you whisper as quiet as dew
My child don’t despair in this night

You can do it with my strength
You can do it through my grace
You can come through this quagmire of life
You can do it with me
As I give you mercy
Don’t despair when your lost in the night

Suddenly light shines around me
The path becomes clear up ahead
Once again I know God walks beside me
I am sure I have nothing to dread
As He speaks

You can do it with my strength
You can do it through my grace
You can come through this quagmire of life
You can do it with me
As I give you mercy
Don’t despair when your lost in the night

Sometimes I get myself into situations that make me cringe. Why did I travel down this road? Why do I get lost in this sin? I brought myself here. Yes, the devil lured me in with His temptations and I succumbed to him, just as Adam and Eve did in the garden. He asks me the same question he asked them on that fateful day. “Did God really say you can’t do that?” When I give any thought to that question, I am in trouble. I know the word well enough to know right and wrong. Yet I walk off the path all too often. I am so glad God is always right thee to bring me back to the path of life. He gives me the strength and the grace to once again walk with Him. Lord, let me stay on this path you have laid out for me! Help me to stay in the light.

Psalm 91:2-3 King James Version (KJV)
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

You’ll See Me Through

Lord I am waiting. Waiting for you
Because I am certain that you’ll see me through

Lord I am hopeful. Hopeful that you
Will hear every prayer that I lift to you

You are so faithful. Faithful to me
You are so faithful. The answer I’ll see
When times get hard. When things seem so dark
I know you are faithful if I’ll do my part

Lord I am praying. Praying to you
For when I cry Jesus your presence is sure

I don’t have to worry. I don’t have to fret
I don’t have to wonder. The answer I’ll get
All that He asks of me. All He requires
Is that I cry out to him. That’s what he desires

How long am I willing to wait? Am I willing to wait 14 years, like Jacob did for Rachel? Am I willing to wait 40 years like Moses did on the back side of the desert, or like the children of Israel in the wilderness? Am I willing to wait once I have killed Goliath to see the promise of God come on my life as David did? Am I willing to wait as the seventy did in the upper room for the promise of God? Am I willing to wait until I am stranded on a deserted island, like John on Patmos?

Most of the time I am not. Most of the time I want my answer now. I want God to do it my way, not His way. I can lose hope real fast, and even stop praying, if I don’t get it when I think I should. I start to think God has forgotten me or given up on me.

But the Bible tells us a different story. The Bible tells us a story about a God who is always faithful, a God who fulfills our hope, A God who answers our prayers. The key is always in the wait. What are you waiting for today? Have faith in the faithful one!

Lamentations 3:22-26 King James Version (KJV)
22 It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

What A Wondrous Love for Me

Lord I often marvel
At what you’ve done for me
Since I first received
Your mercy

Lord I often wonder
How you could hear me pray
Or why you’d take my place
And give me grace

What a wondrous love for me
What a wondrous love for me
Jesus you’re my everything
What a wondrous love for me

Can you even begin to comprehend what Jesus did for you on that cross?  I start to list all that He accomplished and run out of words so quickly.   I mean, didn’t He do enough when He was alive?  He told us of our purpose here on this earth.  We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.  We will do greater things than He did. Greater than raising the dead,  cleansing the lepers, greater than opening blinded eyes or causing the lane to walk?   It is hard to imagine,  but that’s what He said.

But when He died on that cross, He fully paid the price for our sins. His stripes brought healing, our peace was secured, our salvation was procured and His joy endured.  His amazing love for us was displayed for all of time. What a blessed assurance we have in Him

Come Today

I come to you for healing
I come to you for love
I come to you seeking forgiveness
For the sin that hinders me

I come to you seeking mercy
I come to you needing grace
I come to you with all my troubles
And the storms that steal my peace

Oh Lord please hold me tightly
In your soft and tender arms
Set my feet on solid ground, Lord
Once again forgive my sin

Only you can calm my fears, Lord
Only you can ease my pain
Only you know how I’m suff’ring
From the battle deep within

Holy God, Abba Father
I cry out to you today
How I need you
How I need you
Come Lord Jesus. Come today

In my time of trouble He is always there. When I cry out to Him, He hears my cry and He will answer. He knows my suffering and is acquainted with my ways. He defeated every temptation I face. I can have confidence that He will be there when I need Him. When I wander away He will come and find me just as a shepherd searches for his lost sheep. When I feel worthless, He will come and dig me out just like someone would search out a precious pearl. He is the one who eases my pain, heals my diseases, calms my storms, wins my battles and dries my tears. He is the one who makes me new again, putting my old ways behind so I can follow Him. My Father loves me and will not let anything harm me.

Psalm 91:15 King James Version (KJV)
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

Jesus Rescues All

When the storms of life are gathered
When the waves rise up and fall
When it seems they’ll pull me under
Jesus rescues all

When the miry clay surrounds me
When there seems no hope at all
When I’ve floundered in my failure
Jesus rescues all

From the ashes He has pulled me
From the place my faith dissolved
From my wandering in darkness
Jesus rescues all

From my sin that long beset me
From a life that found no calm
From my doubt and disillusion
Jesus rescues all

Now I find myself in His arms
He’s become my all in all
We can have this bles’sed assurance
Jesus rescues all.

Sometimes we forget who God is. We get into tough situations and can’t seem to find our way out. No matter how hard we try, the trials and tests seem to stay with us. We get impatient and lose hope. We wander in a sea of doubt and sorrow, thinking God has abandoned us.

Jesus said He would never leave us or forsake us. He said we would have tribulation, but that we should take courage for He has overcome the world. He is the one who rescued Joseph out of Pharaohs’ hand and exalted him above the nation. He is the one who brought Israel through the Red Sea and buried the Egyptians in that same sea. He is the one who parted the Jordan river for Joseph and knocked down the walls of Jericho. He is the one who gave Samson the strength to bring down the house on the Philistines. He is the one who guided the stone out of David’s’ sling to bring down Goliath. He brought Daniel out of the lion’s den, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego out of the fiery furnace and Jonah out of the belly of a whale. He called Peter from his fishing boat and made him a pillar in the church. He knocked Saul off his horse on the road to Damascus and made him a great apostle. Do you think you’re problem is too big for God? Trust Him. Wait on Him. Believe in Him. Call on His name and He will answer.

Isaiah 41:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

In Your Own Time

I don’t have to worry
I don’t have to fret
For I know that you
Will get to me yet

Some say pray harder
Some shout demands
But I will be patient
And wait for your hand

In your own time, Lord
In your own time
I know that you will answer
In your own time
So humbly I will ask
For mercy and grace
Then in your own time
You’ll honor my faith

My prayer should be bold
My faith should arise
But you Lord are sovereign
Your answer arrives

In your own time, Lord
In your own time
In your own time
Your answer arrives
So humbly I’ll ask
For mercy and grace
Then in your own time
You’ll honor my faith

You Are There For Me

When all seems lost and I’m all alone
You are there for me
When times get hard and I lose my hope
You are there for me

CHORUS
That’s when I trust in your mercy
That’s when I trust in your grace
That’s when I place my life in your hands
I know that you love me so

When I can’t seem to find my way home
You are there for me
When My path seems to always roam
You are there for me

CHORUS

BRIDGE
You are my everlasting Father
You’re my desire and my strength
You are the one that I long for
Every day!

CHORUS

END
You are the one that I long for
Every day!

Lord, You’re Alive

On that old cross
You took my sin
My soul to win
On that cross of shame

I’ll never know
The weight you bore
But I am sure
It brought you pain

But you never wavered
You never complained
Laid in a borrowed tomb
The vict’ry obtained

Then in the morning
The stone rolled away
Death was defeated
You rose from the grave

Lord, you’re alive
My Lord, your alive
You have risen up
From death to life
My Lord, you’re alive

Lord, you’re alive
My Lord, your alive
You have risen up
From death to life
My Lord, you’re alive
