Earned Freedom

When he came home he was weary
Tired of the jungle’s heat
Tired of the sound of gun shots
Ringing in His ear

He walked onto this soil that day
Hoping a greeting awaits
All he got was shouting
No ceremony played

They gave themselves completely
Getting little in return
Except the pride of knowing
Our freedom they did earn.

Today we honor those who died
To keep our freedom strong
Let’s not forget those veterans
Who suffer their whole lives long

Names Will Fall

Certain people come to mind at certain times of year
Basketball is king right now because the playoffs here
The names of certain players just ring inside our ear
We think of them as stars so big and bright

At other times it’s football, maybe baseball takes the stage
All through the year it seems we gawk at just another page
When our team loses some go wild and fall into a rage
Because their stars did not shine such a light

The news men called them famous and lift them up so high
I just wonder when we all will question them with why
Why should they be famous when in just a few years time
They soon will vanish and their names will fall

The famous one came long ago to take away our sin
Their is no name so mighty as the Son who dwells within
No one will ever reach the height of majesty like Him
Jesus the most famous one of all

One More of Me

Some days I get so busy
With all the words He gives
The Holy Spirit speaks to me
To let me know I’m His

When I seem to lag behind
In my chores around the house
i wish I had a doppleganger
Just to help me out

He could do the needed things
To make my living sweet
While I take time to listen close
And hear the Master speak

It’s then I’ll hear Him whisper
These little rhymes of mine
Then I will write them down for you
And keep them for all time

Touch Jesus Heart

Today we have a well-spring
Of brand new worship songs
It seems that heaven’s opened
For us to sing along
Our countenance is glad
As we raise our voices high
Our hearts in sheer delight
Our hands raise to the sky

I love this age of worship
I love new worship songs
The Lord is good to give me
Many of my own
Now I may seem quite archaic
When I say the old-time hymns
Still reach deep down inside me
And draw me  close to Him

The Old Rugged Cross
I Surrender All
Victory In Jesus
My soul these songs call

He Hideth My Soul
To God Be The Glory
Great is Thy Faithfulness
All tell His story

Blessed Assurance
Amazing Grace
Usher me in
To see His face

I know you have others
Quite dear to your heart
Let’s sing old and new
And touch Jesus heart

I Can Be A Ding-Dong

I’m pretty bad about
Trying to figure out
What other’s are thinking about
Usually I am wrong
And it doesn’t take too long
For me to feel like a ding-dong

But that’s what can happen
When we make an assumption
It’s not a wise thing to do
Because all of us know
I don’t have to show
To assume makes a donkey out of you

So never say you know
Where someone will go
Just because there life isn’t like yours
They may know the Savior
And be headed to heaven
But we think they’re bound for hell’s doors

So Majestic

What are we doing on this earth
Spinning around the Sun
Amidst a universe so grand
The stars placed one by one?

Why have we been given this place
Where life’s so beautiful?
What caused the heaven’s to create a place
Where our lives can be so full?

These questions remind me every day
How God gives us His grace
He is so majestic I bow down
And give to Him my praise

My goals in life must disappear
So I can follow Him
I pray He will guide me everyday
By His sweet voice within

Others More than Self

We see it way to often in this cold world of ours
A person has more interest in himself than others
His life is filled with doubt and chronic pessimism
And no one can look past his blatant narcissism

I was once that man who regarded only me
But then God came along and dropped me to my knees
He said to love the other more than myself alone
Just like I have sent my son for your sins to atone

I gave my heart to Him that day and now He is my Lord
I do my best to walk each day according to His word
He leads me to give more respect to others than myself
The golden rule alive and well is how I choose to dwell

Planning on Heaven

I’d always been planning on heaven
Ever since I was a lad
My church taught that we
Would go there for free
For Jesus had paid the tab

Then I learned there was one complication
That I had not learned before
If I don’t repent
My sins won’t relent
Jesus must be made my Lord

So I knelt down there in the church pew
I asked Jesus into my heart
He took away
My sin stains that day
He gave me a brand new start

In response to the daily prompt Complication

Sound Steady

I cannot guess the timing
For no one knows the day
The time of His arriving
Is not too far away

I pray that you are ready
To answer His great call
The trumpet will sound steady
And He will gather all

All who call Him Savior
All who call Him Lord
If you have His favor
If He your heart adores

I may be premature
By thinking you are saved
If you’re not really sure
Please get saved today!

Be on Guard

I’m going through chemo so I wear a mask
Protecting from germs is the point of that task
My whole immune system is shot from the drugs
I don’t need to end up diseased with a bug

But there’s something else I must guard against
The sin that will infect my soul is intense
It creeps in so subtly and plants itself deep
If I will make sure my guard does not sleep

But if I should get caught away in my sin
I have a Savior who heals me within
He gave himself freely at Calvary
Now His grace and mercy will be there for me
