He Comes for You

She came into Bethlehem
Meek and mild
Heavy with child
Riding a donkey for many miles
Worn and weary from a long journey
Seeking room to give birth
There was none but a stable
A lowly manger filled with hay
Would be the child’s resting place
Just one stranger in the city
Teaming with visitors
No one knew her
No one cared
No one knew whom she carried in her womb
Yet at his birth
Shepherds from the field came to greet him
They were told by angels to come
Come meet the King
Come meet the Savior
He brings peace on earth
Good will to man
They came
And they bowed
And they worshipped the King
Then they left and told all
And few understood what they said
Mary knew who He was
Joseph knew who He was
But the world did not know who just arrived
In such humility
In such a place as this

He comes into the gate
Lazarus awaits
Freshly risen form the dead
Bartimaeus awaits
His eyes wide open
The crowd awaits
To praise the coming King
Riding on a donkey
Meek and mild
Heavy with His fate and what awaits Him
Not the crowd
Not the praise
But the cross He sees coming for Him
He arrives to Hosannah
Blessed be the one who comes in the name of the Lord
He arrives to praise
Palm branches waving
People shouting and singing
He arrives to death
Calvary looms large in the distance
He knows He will be beaten
He knows He will wear a crown of thorns
He knows He will be condemned to die
He knows He will be nailed to a cross
Crucified
Yet He still comes
In great humility
To fulfill His destiny
And all prophesy
To all who think they know who He is
But have no idea what will become of Him
The pain
The agony
The suffering
The loneliness of the cross
All for us
All for me
All for you

Will you welcome the King?
Will you lift your palms to worship?
Will you welcome Him today?
Give Him all your praise?
Give your life today?
He gave His for you
Now it’s your turn
Your time
Your destiny
Let Him in
Welcome Him with open arms
He comes to die
Yet He comes to save
He comes to suffer
Yet he comes to heal
He comes to forgive
Yet her takes all your sin
Take His love today
He gives it for you

Overturned

Crowds swarmed the street
All classes
Men and women
Young and old
Even the religious leaders
Pious and curious
He was coming
Just a few days earlier
He had raised Lazarus from the dead
Many had witnessed it
Many spread the story
He was coming
Coming to Jerusalem
They thought Him to be King
They sought to crown Him
They ran before Him
Spreading palm branches
Shouting Hosanna
Shouting Blessed is He
Praising
Worshiping
The King is coming
What a glorious day

The Pharisees and Scribes looked on
They wondered at the sight
It troubled them
He troubled them
His words troubled them
The people worshiping troubled Him
They indeed were troubled
They said quiet the crowd
Tell them you should not be worshiped
But He looked them in the eye
His stern face looked through them
If they did not praise me
The very rocks would cry out Hosanna
The people cheered
The leaders jeered
This had to stop
This had to stop

The day wore on
The night came and went
A new dawn would see a new day
The leaders hoped he would be quiet
But soon they would see
He would not be silent
The marketplace was busy
Many had come to see him
Many others there for Passover
They needed a sacrifice
They had come to see Jesus
Unprepared for their Passover offering
Without a perfect lamb
Without a pigeon or two
They had to buy from the merchants
The crooked merchants
Who had unjust weights
And resold lambs over and over
It was profitable for them
It was sin to God
Right inside the gates of the temple
Absurd and astounding
That the religious leaders looked away
Because they got their take
Quite a sham
Out of what was to be holy

Jesus walked in
He knew their ways
He knew their deceit
He knew how they cheated the people
He knew of their unjust weights
He had been here before
He had turned over their tables
Money flew everywhere
Lambs ran wild
Pigeons flew away
As Jesus cleaned up their sinful ways
When they saw Him
Saw the look in His eyes
As He looked out over the market that day
They were worried
Concerned for their profit
Some for their lives
They remembered what He had done before
They started picking up their wares
Too late
Too slow

He grabbed one table
Flipped it on end
Reached over and unblocked the gate
Opened the cage
Chaos erupted
As He continued through the marketplace
Lambs and pigeons everywhere
Money flying off the tables
Scattering on the ground
People scrambling to pick it up
My house is to be a house of prayer He said
But you have made it a den of thieves
The people hailed Him
Loved Him
Adored Him
The Pharisees and scribes watched
They were livid
How dare He
How could He do this again
They were ready now
Ready to capture Him
Ready to put Him to death
Ready to gain the victory
Over this Jesus

What about you
Do you need sin overturned in your life
Has your life become full of lies
Is their iniquity that needs cleansed
Jesus wants to overturn your tables
He wants to cleanse your life
He wants you holy and pure
A living sacrifice
Devoted to Him
Are you willing
Are you ready
Let Him overturn your life today
