Christmas Poetry

The Songs of Christmas

Hear the sounds of Christmas
Ringing in the air
Sounds that warm your heart
Meant for all to hear

Jingle Bells are jingling
Everywhere you go
Wishing Merry Christmas
To all who hear them toll

The First Noel has sounded
From choirs bringing cheer
Noel, Noel Born is the King
Is music to our ears

Precious songs of Christmas
Songs if warmth and cheer
Sung with all your heart
Every single year

And then a chorus fills the air
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Voices of the highest praise
Glory to the newborn King

Oh, little town of Bethlehem
A town we’ve grown to love
Is visited by three wise men
Who saw he star above

Sing the tale of Christmas
With familiar lines
From children to our elders
Enjoying every rhyme

Away in lowly manger
No room was found for them
In hay they laid their baby
And there His tale begins

Silent Night, Holy Night
When Jesus Christ was born
The songs of His appearing
Are songs that bring us joy

Joy to the World
Jesus Christ has come
Born to die for all mankind
Praise the Holy One

Sing the songs of Christmas
Lift your praise above
Sing with all your heart
Songs we know and love

Christmas poetry

The Great Payment

Have you ever thought it strange
That a baby in a manger
Would be the one who came to set men free
And have you ever stopped to think
About the fact that Heaven’s King
Left His throne to come and die for you and me

You may think it’s a fable
He was born in lowly stable
But the story has withstood the test of time
And I thought that you should know
Why I’ve come to love Him so
For I want you to know this Lord of Life

You see, He changed my life
When I came to Him that time
That my life was spinning out of control
He forgave all of my sin
And He put His spirit in
Now He walks with me wherever I may go

Because this baby in the manger
Was no ordinary stranger
But the Son of God who came to earth that day
He shared the Father’s love
And brought healing from above
And He said He was the truth the life the way

His teaching brought division
Put the leaders in derision
They decided that He must be put to death
So they shouted crucify Him
On a cross they railed against Him
And He gave His life in one last gasp of breath

The final price was paid
For the sin of human race
And now we are set free forevermore
And it all began that day
In a stable filled with hay
And a baby who the blessed Mary bore.

This Christmas don’t forget
The great payment for our debt
That was made by that baby in the hay
He was born to die for me
And to set the captive free
Let us celebrate His birth this Christmas day

A Christmas Prayer

The day is finally here
A day of mirth and good cheer
We’ve waited this long
And sung all the songs
That deck the halls this year

The Christmas tree shines so bright
And the houses are covered with lights
The presents are many
The foods getting ready
And soon we’ll all wake from the night

The children flock to the tree
And open their presents with glee
Paper flies everywhere
Parents laugh without a care
They just hope the children are pleased

Once all the presents are open
It’s time for the feast to begin
We sit at the table
And all who are able
Take turns as we start to dig in

Then a gentle hand says wait
Let’s take a minute to pray
So they all bow their heads
As these words are said
To give God the thanks for this day

Oh, the joy of Christmas
Glad tidings we all sing
Blessed Hallelujahs
To the King of Kings
Glory in the highest
Emmanuel is here
Let’s not forget the reason
For this special time of year

Because God sent His son
In a manger bed He lay
Such a simple start
Yet we celebrate this day
Because that little babe
Gave His life our debt to pay
And now we’re born again
If we follow in His way

There’s a hush that fills the room
As a little child says
I want to follow Him
Will you show me the way?
And right there at the table
Before the meal begins
We pray the sinner’s prayer
And that child has entered in

Oh, the joy of Christmas
Glad tidings we all sing
Blessed Hallelujahs
To the King of Kings
Glory in the highest
Emmanuel is here
Let’s not forget the reason
For this special time of year

Christmas with the Psalmist

Hello to all my faithful readers:

First, I want to thank everyone who visits my page regularly. I pray these poems are uplifting and help to strengthen your walk with the Lord.

During this Christmas season, I decided to publish a collection of my Christmas poems. Perhaps you would like a copy to keep or to give as a gift to someone who enjoys poetry of this type. Here is a link:

This Precious Gift

As Christmas cheer
Rings in my ear
I love the carol songs
They speak of Christ
This special night
And last the evening long

I see the lights
They shine so bright
As they adorn the streets
Remind me of
The star above
That wise men came to seek

All people greet
Wish words so sweet
The season of true joy
These words of love
Make me thing of
The blessed baby boy

You see everything about Christmas
Reminds me of His love
And he precious gift He brought
When He came down from above

The gift was my salvation
From all my sin and shame
Since I accepted this great gift
I’ve never been the same

His joy is overwhelming
His peace is so much more
His hope keeps me from worry
And His love fills every pore

This gift is yours this Christmas Day
If you will ask Him in
He will come into your heart
And wipe away your sin

A Beautiful Sight

I look up at the stars tonight
All in their places and shining so bright
I say Lord what a beautiful sight
Your glory displayed in the skies tonight

Then the sun begins to cast its rays
Turning clouds crimson red from their pre-dawn grays
Golden beams stretch across my gaze
What a beautiful sight to start my day

As the sun crosses the sky His beauty grows
The trees wave their arms in praise below
The birds sing a song because they know
This beautiful sight is for all to behold

Then the dusk arrives and the sun begins to set
He paints the sky all across the west
His majesty is on display again
This beautiful sight brings day to end

Don't miss a single moment of His grace
No matter what may come He'll make a way
The beautiful sights He gives to us each day
Are a token of His love so give Him praise

Yours Eternally

I can't believe
What you've done for me
You set me free from all my sin
You did enough
To raise me up
From dark defeat to be your son

And now I know your peace
And now I know your joy
And now I know your love was meant for me
Your grace has filled my soul
Your mercy made me whole
Now I am yours eternally.

I can’t believe
What you’ve given me
You filled my heart with your great love
A greater joy
Now my hearts knows
You’ve made a home for me above

Praise His name
Praise His wonderful name
Name above it all
Shout it out
From the mountain top
Jesus Savior of the world

And now I know your peace
And now I know your joy
And now I know your love was meant for me
Your grace has filled my soul
Your mercy made me whole
Now I am yours eternally.

Bold

The night gets slowly darker as crowds fill up the streets
Several inns are filling up with people needing sleep
Among them is a young lass who soon expects a child
She's tired and in pain after traveling for a while

Her husband goes from door to door, looking for a place
But every single time a look of sadness fills his face
There's no place to hang his hat and nowhere to lay his head
But even more important is his wife who needs a bed

A lady hears their troubles and offers her advice
Perhaps a little stable could be shelter for the night
She leads them far away from the bustle of the crowd
And piles up some straw for a bed upon the ground

The man and his lady settle in for the night
The baby's coming fast as she labors out of sight
And soon a cry is heard that Is barely heard at all
The Son of God is born this day, Savior of us all

An angel then appears to some shepherds in the field
“Peace” the angel echoed as the shepherds bowed in fear
Today is born a Savior, go and see what God has done
Then the shepherds left their flocks and set out on a run

They came upon the stable that the angel had foretold
And there they saw the baby that had come to save the world
Rejoicing in this truth, they went out to tell the world
A baby has been born this day, the Savior of the world

We’re never told if folks received the message they proclaimed
We’re never told if folks believed and called upon His name
The only thing we know is that they did what they were told
I have no doubt they want about with words that were quite bold

I need that kind of passion to proclaim Messiah’s birth
In a world where Christmas is a time of merriment and mirth
So many people celebrate, and so few really know
The truth of why He came and the Love that He has shown

This Christmas let us share His story everywhere we go
Don’t miss an opportunity to let His love be known
For if this season passes by and we’ve not said a word
Wee may not have another chance to lead them to the Lord

Accepted

When I first came to Jesus
I just did not know
If He would take me as I was
Or say I'd have to go
My life was a disaster
I'd been a mess for years
And when I learned my fate was hell
I burst out into tears

I couldn't understand
How He could still love me
Because I'd done so many things
To shun His great mercy
Drinking, drugs and lust galore
Filled my thoughts each day
I figured there was no way out
I'd truly lost my way

But then a good friend told me
Of His amazing grace
That He had taken all my sins
And died to take my place
Now all I had to do
Was accept His sacrifice
So when I asked Him in my heart
He'd fill me with new life

I figured why not try it
I had nothing to lose
The thought of hell forever
Had me shaking in my boots
So I knelt down at the alter
And I asked Him to come in
And I felt a stirring in my soul
Like a rushing, mighty wind

From that day forth my life has changed
Now heaven Is my home
And life on earth is so much more
Of joy and peace and hope
I know deep in my heart
That Jesus loves me so
And now that He accepted me
There's something you should know

He loves you right where you are
With a love that never dies
He wants to have you as His own
He wants to change your life
So don't wait until your ready
Just cry out to Him today
And you will be accepted
Your sins He'll wipe away

Knowing His Love

It’s not hard to explain
The love I have inside
For Jesus Christ my Lord
The one they crucified
He took away my sin
The day he bled and died
And when He rose again
He gave eternal life

His love fills me with joy
And that abundantly
This joy that lasts all day
And always comforts me
No circumstance can change
This joy that’s deep in me
It bubbles out in love
For all the world to see

His peace is always there
To brighten up my day
It keeps me safe and sound
Wherever I may stray
I never have to worry
When trials come my way
Because His peace is there
It gives me strength to pray

I’ll never lose the hope
Of heaven that’s ahead
My future is secure
I will not fear or dread
When all of life is gone
And to most I will be dead
My hope has made a mansion
Where I will rest my head

This poem could go on
For days and even years
Listing all the ways
His love is oh so dear
And all the benefits
He whispers in my ear
My prayer is that you’ll come to know
The love this poem shares
