The Matchless Gift

I remember the day He called to me
In a church so far away
His spirit reached out and captured me
As the altar call was played 
But I could not move out of my seat
As I sat with hand up raised 
And we left that night before I prayed
To ask Jesus in my heart 

Later that week the pastor came
To my friend’s house to see me
He asked if I wanted to pray that prayer
And I told him yes sir please 
As I prayed I felt my body chill
And the sweat gushed out if me
I knew that Jesus had come in
And I knew He had touched me

What a wonder
What a Savior 
What a matchless gift He gives
What a privilege 
What a mystery
How He washed away my sin
I will always have that memory 
Of the day He saved my soul 
I have never been the same again
As He made my new life whole 

I returned back home to my job and friends
But a change had just occurred
And I realized I had to change
I went back to my old church
I counseled with the pastor
And I lent my voice to the choir
But the friends I used to hang with
Were still there to lead me sour

Two years went by and I changed a lot
But the old ways wouldn’t go
I went back out to Iowa
I found a love that God had sown
Two months later I moved out that way
And I married that lady fair
Thirty-eight years later we’re serving God
And I know He’s always there

What a wonder
What a Savior 
What a matchless gift He gives
What a privilege 
What a mystery
How He washed away my sin

I will always have that memory 
Of the day He changed my life 
I have never been the same again
Since the day I took my wife
Jesus gave her to me
It’s the best thing He has giv’n

My Way Back

I saw the old man 
walk into church that Sunday morn
His clothes were tattered
his skin was worn
I could smell the hardness of life 
Three pews away
And I was ready to move 
when I heard him pray 

I've got to find my way back to you
I've drifted too far away
Not sure how far I've strayed
I've got to find my way back to you
Please keep shining your light 
into this night 
that I'm going thru

He sat alone
no one dared to come near
The music started 
he bowed his head
I could see the tears 
were running down his face
As we sang Amazing Grace 
he looked up and prayed

Dear God 
I'm not sure what I need to do
My life is such a big mess 
I can't find any rest
Dear God 
please show me what I need to do
To get turned around 
and be grounded in you again

I could feel the tears 
start running from my eyes
And while the music played on 
I moved to his side
I said friend 
the Lord has heard your cry
Would you come with me right now
I will help you find your way

As the music 
played just as I am
We knelt down
bowed our heads
closed our eyes
and he started to pray

Father forgive me 
for the wrongs I have done

will be yours from now on
Dear Jesus
thank you for my friend

Then he took my hand
and gave a gentle squeeze
A smile as big as heaven 
broke his weary, worn face
I know that he'd met Jesus
and I looked up in praise

you keep drawing us back

And promised to do everything you say
As I go through this life day after day 
But then I slipped and fell

All that I have is my praise sacrifice.
No matter the mood, or whatever the pain
I’ll still take the time to lift up your name

The Greatest Love Song

I don’t think I will ever see
A love song start this way
When He gave up all of heavens praise
To come here as a babe

I don’t think I will ever know
A child who was so meek
He worked those years in Fathers shop
When He knew who He would be

Then the love song picks up tempo
As He’s baptized with such grace
The Holy Spirit declares His name
And He starts to show His face

Then He teaches for the next 3 years
The people flock to see Him
He brings healing and deliverance
And sets His fire within

But the love song takes a bitter tone
As the leaders plot against Him
And with the help of one of His own
They take Him and arrest Him

The music is so melancholy
As the crowd cries crucify
And they beat Him, mock Him, scourge Him
And nail Him up so high

But this is where the love song shows
His deepest love for me
As He cries out from the cross “Forgive”
And from sin He sets me free

And even though he bows His head
And dies at Calvary
The love song doesn’t end right there
One last stanza’s meant for me

For in three days He rose again
His spirit won’t depart
His love will keep Him at our side
As He lives inside our heart

Oh the wondrous love of Jesus
Oh the beauty of His plan

This Night

This night is a holy night.  
With the star shining brightly in the sky
Where the child lay
This night is a holy night.  
For the spirit of God has come to stay
In a stable filled with hay.  
It’s a Holy Night

This star is a holy star.  
Shining so brightly in the sky
There to light the way
This star is a holy star.  
Giving light to Mary’s newborn babe
He has come the world to save. 
It’s a Holy Star.
	
All of heaven rejoices, singing hallelujah
Emmanuel has come to earth
Angels ring in His coming on this glorious day
The son of God has come to save

To shepherds in the field

New Life

In the winter all the trees are hibernating just waiting for the coming of the spring
When the Lord of all the earth will give them new life.  What a joy, what a splendor that will bring
My life may sometimes seem so dark and dreary by the trials and tribulations on the way
But God sends His Son and gives me new life filled with joy and with wonder at His grace

He gives a joy inside my heart.  He gives a peace that won’t depart
He gives me life brand new each day.  And then He guides me on the way
I can only bow down and say: I honor you, I worship you I love you, my Lord.

So when your life seems clouded by confusion
And the daily chore of living gets you down
Just remember that the Lord of all creation
Gave His life so that mercy might abound

He gives a joy inside my heart.  He gives a peace that won’t depart
He gives me life brand new each day.  And then He guides me on the way
