In the beginning He created heaven and earth

In the garden He shed His blood
As He prayed that God’s will be done
Then betrayed by a kiss He gave up
His life not His own

He was led to a trial in the night
Far away from the people’s sight
They convicted Him falsely accused
His will not His own

Then He took the stripes on His back
A crown of thorns on His head
His carried His cross up the hill
His fate not His own

He took His last breath
Then gave in to death
Laid in the tomb
Forever presumed

In three days, the stone rolled away
From death to life, He was raised
Now He sits by the Fathers side

He walked into church with a frown
All his stocks and bonds were down
He felt out of place
Extremely disgraced
That his life was on sinking ground

As the preacher spoke the word
He couldn’t help feeling absurd
But deep down inside
He just couldn’t hide
As the spirit within Him was stirred

As the service then came to an end
A call to the altar begins
He rose from His seat
Then got down on his knees
And cried out to God I repent

Then the choir sang amazing grace
A change came upon his face
He no longer looked sad
Instead, he was glad
As the preacher began to say

Heaven rejoices today
Someone has found their way
The angels are singing
The church bells are ringing
Somebody just got saved

What did I do to deserve such love
Whatever it was, it was not enough
Because when He sends His love from above
His mercy and grace come along

It’s not just His love that washes me white

His breath was heavy
Constricted by the cross
Nails in His feet and hands
His words were at a loss

Hanging in that place
Bearing all my sin
He spoke these words of life
That we might live again

He said “I thirst” and showed His weakness
Becoming open to His need of God
He could not drink alone, but needed help
Asking for compassion from all of us

These words are words of life, and not of death
These words were spoken with His final breath

The words of Jesus on that cross
His breath defeated, His life a loss
His words bring victory to all who hear
And know the meaning of His final words

He said, “It is finished”, and then He died
The work of redemption, sin crucified
His work in the end was crying out
Needing what he could not give Himself

These words are words of life, and not of death
These words were spoken with His final breath

The words of Jesus on that cross
His breath defeated, His life a loss
His words bring victory to all who hear
And know the meaning of His final words

And in the midst of it all He said forgive them
For they know not what they do
His words ring down through the ages
That we should always live with gratitude
Forgiving those who wrong us
Thirsting for their love
Knowing it is finished
And Jesus dwells above
