Center Stage

I was just a young boy when I first took center stage
I danced around a fire truck, my tap shoes were the rage
In high school I was on the crew that propped the final play
In recent years I lead my church to sing of amazing grace

I also was on stage with my wife many times
The spotlight was on both of us as we spoke out our lines
Some of these were musicals and we would sing our songs
The practices were tiresome and often were qui0te long

I see actors playing on the stages that do shine
In TV studios where the queues are right on time
I’ve been to concerts where those lights were bright
When the concert started, the worship out of sight

But the brightest stage of all was the on a little babe
A star shone from the heaven that shone upon His stage
Shepherds came and worshiped, kings from far away
That quiet night in Bethlehem when He took center stage

His whole life in the spotlight, all the common people cheered
But the leaders and the elders only looked at Him and jeered
They didn’t like this Jesus, they thought He was a fraud
They thought He was an actor, not the perfect Son of God

They plotted to destroy Him as His stage grew brighter still
The spotlight that was on Him, they thought was not God’s will
They made false accusations and hired to take Him down
Their desire was to take away this spotlight from His brow

They caused the crowd to cry out “crucify Him” in the street
The ruler of the nation had to grant their sordid plea
Then they beat Him and they bruised Him, the blood for all to see
A crown of thorns upon His head would mock His claim as king

They made Him bear His cross as they led Him up the hill
The nailed His hands and feet and all the crowd was stilled
Once again, He was the person that the brightest light was on 
Even though the skies went dark, the show had just begun

He was buried in a borrowed tomb and a stone the blocked the door
His stage seemed all but gone as they made the stone secure
Three days passed and all His friends thought His days were gone
They scrambled to find meaning in all that had been done

Then the third day came and the stone was rolled away
Once again, the Son of God would stand on center stage
He has risen back to life and ascended to His throne
The spotlight would be on Him now forevermore

Has jesus taken center stage in your life today
Have you made Him Lord of all?
Has He washed your sins away?
From now until forever He will be on center stage
Please come to Him today and taste of His sweet grace

His breath was heavy
Constricted by the cross
Nails in His feet and hands
His words were at a loss

Hanging in that place
Bearing all my sin
He spoke these words of life
That we might live again

He said “I thirst” and showed His weakness
Becoming open to His need of God
He could not drink alone, but needed help
Asking for compassion from all of us

These words are words of life, and not of death
These words were spoken with His final breath

The words of Jesus on that cross
His breath defeated, His life a loss
His words bring victory to all who hear
And know the meaning of His final words

He said, “It is finished”, and then He died
The work of redemption, sin crucified
His work in the end was crying out
Needing what he could not give Himself

These words are words of life, and not of death
These words were spoken with His final breath

The words of Jesus on that cross
His breath defeated, His life a loss
His words bring victory to all who hear
And know the meaning of His final words

And in the midst of it all He said forgive them
For they know not what they do
His words ring down through the ages
That we should always live with gratitude
Forgiving those who wrong us
Thirsting for their love
Knowing it is finished
And Jesus dwells above

These words are words of life, and not of death

When I Look At the Cross

When I look at the cross, I see mercy
Pouring down from the blood on His brow
All of heaven came down at that moment
To forgive me and make me His child

When I look at the cross, I see grace
Given freely with the nails in His hands
All the riches of heaven became mine
When He suffered and died for my shame

When I look at the cross, I am peaceful

A Day Gone Bad for Good

I've often had a day that I consider bad
Not a thing goes quite the way that I would wish it had
When I look back at one day that happened long ago
My bad day seems quite beautiful compared to what I’ll show

It started with betrayal from a friend that he held dear
Then a walk to a garden where he prayed with many tears
He asked his closest friends to pray with him as one
But they just fell asleep so he had to pray alone

Soon soldiers had arrived with that friend who turned away
A kiss upon his cheek was the clue that he's the prey
After a brief scuffle all those with him turned to flee
He was taken captive by a Roman enemy

Early in the morning several trials now were held
Religious leaders found men who would fashion lies to tell 
They beat him and the spit on him as he remained quite still
They charged him with blasphemy and took him down the hill

Just before the dawn the second trial took place 
That Roman procurator found him guiltless to his face
Sent him back to Herod who did not know what to do
Back to the Roman who decided pain was due

They scourged him with a whip laced with chips of stone
Then placed upon his head a crown of longest thorns 
Bloody and so tired he faced a crowd he’d seen
Just five days ago they had praised him in the streets

This time they would choice between him and some known thief 
They chose the other guy and gave him no relief 
Crucify him was their cry and they strapped on him a cross
He bowed under its weight and another helped him up

They made it to the place that others were to die
They drove through hands and feet long and painful spikes 
The cross was set upright and the terror now began
Only nine am and what a day he had not planned 

He hung there for six hours and many words he spoke 
He asked God to forgive them for the life that they forsook 
Halfway through the sky turned dark in middle of the day
The final act was written it is finished he did say

They laid him in a borrowed tomb and set a guard to watch
The tomb wad sealed with one large stone so no one could approach 
His day was over and to us it looks so very bad
But truly it's the best day that we have ever had

We call this day Good Friday for our sins were washed away 
Our healing was provided by the stripes He took that day
Deliverance from all our enemies was now ensured
His death became our victory for all of time secured 

So sing aloud your praises for this worst of any day
Remember what had happened when you’re stuck in nasty days
Rejoice in all your trials and worship His great name 
Jesus Christ endured the cross to take away your pain
