Summer Favorite

There’s nothing much that I like more than root beer floats in summer
The ice cream and the drink go hand in hand
I must be careful every time
I make one of these drinks sublime
That froth does not too drastically expand

For there’s no substance in the froth that builds up rather quickly
Then slowly shrinks back down into place
I may enjoy the frothy taste
But soon it all will dissipate
My root beer float will fill its rightful space

This world is full or froth in all the various ideas
Of how eternal life can be attained
One thing I know is true
Jesus must be Lord of you
If hell you will avoid and heaven gain

The Best Intentions

I’ve always felt I had a knack for knowing many words
Spelling was a friend of mine even the absurd
I have a big vocabulary which I count most dear
So when I looked at the word today I did not shed a tear

I took my little fingers and typed inchoate define
In just a blink a new word was settled in my mind
I started out this rhyme with the best intentions planned
It’s always fun to have a new word I can understand

I often find myself reading something in God’s Word
That stimulates my mind as I think about my Lord
Learning of His ways is so easy and close by
Will you pick up your Bible and let Him show you why?

Why He gave His Son to be your sacrifice
Why He gave a way to provide eternal life
Why He says today you can be free of your sin
Why not call to Jesus and ask Him to come in?

My Packed Truck

Been doing some destruction
Changing storage to a hall
To make room for a sliding door
That needs to be installed

The drywall and the two-by-fours
Are packed up in my truck
We’ll take them to the landfill soon
Once roads aren’t filled with muck

In life it’s so much harder”
To rid ourselves of stuff
We haul it all around with us
Until it hurts to much

Jesus came to take that mess
The weight that burdens you
Just ask Him to forgive your sin
He’ll let you start brand new

The Promise

The weather is not spring-like in Iowa this year
Along with frigid temperatures of snow we’ve had our share
But I know better weather is just around the bend
For God has made a promise that seasons will not end

One other promise He has made is always true as well
When we put our trust in Jesus our future will go well
For heaven is the promise He gives to all the saved
So ask Him to forgive you invite Him in today

The Gift Within

My grandpa was a laborer
On a dairy farm
He gathered eggs
And milked the cows
He started before dawn

The milk was pasteurized
Before it left the barn
But we held some
To drink for lunch
And some we had to churn

Churning is the process
Of solidifying milk
It agitates
And then creates
Butter in its place

The Word of God within us
Must be stirred up inside
When churned about
It brings results
That help us to survive

Stir up the gift within you
Make sure it’s shining bright
Then witness here
And then afar
So all can see the light

Still Curious

When I was a boy so curious
I loved to go out in the woods
We’d look for strange things
Great joy it did bring
To search for whatever I could

Now that I’m a man still curious
I have a new place to explore
The Word of God speaks
To all who will seek
It’s treasures my heart will implore

Are You Ready?

I watch the sun as it rises today
Creeping its way up the sky
Bright rays touch the clouds
The birds sing aloud
Their anthem is raised up high

Someday soon God’s Son will return to earth
To bring all His dear children home
His radiant light
Will dazzle our sight
Well bow at the foot of His throne

Be sure today that you’re ready to go
When the trumpet shall sound that day
Trust in His name
Repent and be saved
Then lift up your voice in praise.

Warm Words

We live our lives from day to day
We go about our work and play
We laugh and joke with words we say
Not knowing what they do

So often words that we will speak
Will open wounds within the weak
Their toxic sound makes hearers weep
In quiet solitude

I come to you this Easter morn
I pray that your words will be warm
That they will not bring any harm
To those you meet today

Guard carefully the things you say
Make sure they never bring dismay
May only good words be your way
From now forevermore

Careful with that Iron

There seem to be more labels
On the stuff we buy today
I just cannot get over
The message they convey

A jar of peanuts warning
That peanuts here reside
A shirt that says don’t iron
While you are still inside

There is one label needed
On life that I don’t see
Make sure you trust in Jesus
Before death swallows thee
