The days are getting shorter
The nights are getting colder
The blankets on the bed are getting deep
I shudder as I balk
At the puppy’s morning walk
I simply want to get back to sleep

But then I realized
That the morning has arrived
Christmas looms a few days away
So, I get my garments on
As the sun begins to dawn
I walk into the cold and greet the day

God, I know you are there with me

My morning walk has ended
My day is not upended
As I settle in to read my Father’s words 
The Bible is now open
And it seems the words are spoken
Right into my heart to change my world
