He is my rock, my refuge, my fortress strong
When I rest in His arms, it is like being inside a walled city
All my provision is there
All my comfort is there
No enemy can breach those walls
No amount of taunting by the enemy can be heard
Because He is my protector
He is my deliverer
He has already defeated my enemy
I need to learn to rest in His victory
All to often I walk outside those walls
I wander from the path
I want to make it on my own
I can feel myself being drawn to my enemy
I wait to long to run back to Him
And I fall. I fall hard
So hard I cry out to Him
He comes to my rescue every time
He picks me up and cradles me in His loving arms
He returns me to my place of shelter
And I am safe once again
Oh, God
Full of mercy and grace, wonder and awe
I don’t know why you put up with me, but you do
For that I will praise you and lift you high
For you are my rock, my refuge and my fortress
I can rest in your arms.
His mercy and grace are so much more than I can understand. Over and over again sin knocks at my door and I let it in. Whether it’s my pride rising up, or arguing, or gossiping and backbiting. Or it may be what some would see as more severe. From the smallest sin to man’s worst nightmare, they are all the same to Him. All of them are simple disobedience to His word and deserve His judgment. But I when I cry out to Him, He sees me with eyes of compassion, He extends His mercy and He surrounds me with His grace. Why would I want to leave such a wonderful love as this.
I will do all I can to stay in His loving arms. I will resist the urge to go out on my own and try to make it on my own strength. I will abide in His presence, in the shadow of His wings, all the day long. I will not trust my wisdom but depend on His. For I know that all I will do is wander. My heart is prone for that. This earth and all its beauty also contains my enemy. I must resist him and his allure. I must keep my eyes fixed on Jesus for he is the one who will keep me safe. I will rest in Him
Psalm 62:5-8
5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God ; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
