Don’t be a Parakeet

I heard a mockingbird
Saying things he should not say
Then I heard a parakeet
That would mimic all the day

I thought about the backbiters
Who come to church for prey
Then thought about the gossipers
Who spread lies every way

We Christians are above all that
We should be speaking truth
Lifting up all those around
With words that lift and sooth

Let’s put aside the nasty words
And take on all that’s good
Then perhaps we’d see a change
In our declining world

Amen! I love the comparisons you paint here with references to the mockingbird and parakeet. Truly unforgettable and powerful.
