The Latter Rain

I live In rural Iowa where corn and soybeans rule
Our rainy spell is over and now it has turned cool
The harvest lingers way behind and must get done real soon
Because we are the breadbasket for many in this world

But my eyes look for something else when I think of the rain
The former rain is good for life on earth as it sustains
But I look for the latter times of Holy Spirit rain
To come and fill our souls and bring us back to God again

It seems our country’s lost it’s soul to morals that do lack
And people all around us seem to fall much further back
They know longer recognize when Satan is in full attack
They just go with the flow and fall into his world of slack

It’s time the church rise up and call upon the latter rain
To overcome the enemy and raise up Christ again
He said if he were lifted up he’d draw to Him all men
Come on church pray with all your might that Jesus Christ will reign

Promise Kept

Rain is falling heavily
Has been all night long
Raindrops in the puddles
Make a merry song

Wind is whipping loudly
Rustling the leaves
Birds are huddled closely
Covered in the tree

Suddenly I hear a chirp
Sounding in my yard
Then I hear some others
Listening real hard

Looking out my wind
Cerulean skies appear
Clouds are rolling back
Sun is shining clear

Rain still falling gently
I look to the east
Rainbow casts its splendor
Bringing with it peace

God had made a promise
Many years ago
He’ll never flood the earth again
Like in the days of Noah

I look at to the rainbow
And thank God for the rain
I thank Him for the sunshine
His promise kept again

Let it Rain

I am tired
I am worn
I am weak
I am torn
Holy Spirit
Come and fill my cup today

I am empty
I am dry
I am running
Out of time
Holy Spirit
Come and quench this thirst of mine

Let it rain
Let It rain
Let the Holy Ghost rain down on me
Let it rain
Let it rain
Let the Holy Ghost rain down on me

I an hear a distant thunder
Drawing closer
Sounding louder
I can smell the rain approaching
Rain on me
Rain on me

Let it rain
Let It rain
Let the Holy Ghost rain down on me
Let it rain
Let it rain
Let the Holy Ghost rain down on me

Down the Trail

I started down the trail
On a bright sunny day
Blue sky dotted with clouds
White and puffy
Like cotton balls floating by
It was autumn
Trees lined the path
Yellow and orange leaves
Fluttered down from above
Floating on a gentle breeze
The path sloped downhill
A gentle incline
Leading to a brook below
Lush moss lined the older trees
Undergrowth filled the ground
With green leaves
As I neared the brook
It babbled to me
Letting me know it was there
The growth got thicker as I neared it
The path became more obscure
There was much growing
In the valley
Near the brook
I crossed the small brook
Heading up the other side
Steeper and steeper was the climb
The sky started clouding up
Darker clouds hiding the sun
Darker below the trees
The fragrance of rain filled my nostrils
The climb became even more difficult
Then the rain started
Gentle rain
Filtering through the leaves
Showering down upon me
As I continued upward incessantly
Desiring to reach the summit
The trees grew scarcer
The passing rain grew lighter
The clouds started to part
I came out of the trees into open air
Rocky ground was all around me
The sun started to peak through the distant clouds
Lowering on the horizon
The air was clean and clear
A I reached the summit
Watching the sunset
Brilliant reds filled the sky
As clouds were gilded gold
Extraordinary colors
Bade the setting sun goodbye

Reflecting on my trip that day
I realized
That every step was a joy
The valley had its pleasures
As did the summit
The rain was refreshing
The climb invigorating
The ending beautiful
Then I realized
That life is so like this walk of mine
Filled with ups and downs
Clear skies and rain
Valleys and mountains
It is all joy
It is all good
It is all a blessing
It is all a gift from God
